Favoriting September 22, 2015: MICA LEVI (Under The Skin/Micachu & The Shapes)
In the midst of a tour supporting Micachu & The Shapes' third album "Good Sad Happy Bad," Mica Levi drops by to discuss her first film score to Jonathan Glazer's surrealist horror/sci-fi "Under The Skin" starring Scarlett Johansson, one of host Devon E. Levins' favorites of 2014. Mica has a not-so-secret background studying composition at the prestigious Guildhall School where she was commissioned to compose for the London Philharmonic in 2008 and, shortly thereafter, was the youngest individual at 24 to be invited as an Artist-in-Residence at the Southbank Centre. Mica's work on "Under The Skin" garnered her Best Film Composer at the 2014 European Film Awards and a similar shared title with Jonny Greenwood at the L.A. Film Critics Awards. Milan Records has released the soundtrack on vinyl, CD and digitally.

Errr… Skipping in 91.1FM. Weird and cool.
Avatar 7:14pm
bobdoesthings:

anyone else's stream skipping like crazy?
  7:14pm
bloopy:

is this meant to be skipping?
Avatar 7:14pm
bobdoesthings:

or is this intentional?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:14pm
dale:

not the stream. on air, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:15pm
Polyus:

Glad that isn't just me, thought I was stroking out over here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:15pm
Marcel M:

woah.. that was trippy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:15pm
chris:

totally freaked me out
Avatar 7:16pm
bobdoesthings:

so what's everyone's guess.. intentional or malfunction?
  7:17pm
bloopy:

intentional i think
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:17pm
chris:

crusty cd player/cd?
Avatar 7:17pm
bobdoesthings:

But if they are live in studio.. must be a malfunction, no? Wouldn't you have to go back in time and edit that repeating in..?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:18pm
Polyus:

It always sounds to me like the viola parts are recorded to tape and then played back. Sort of like what you get with a mellotron.
  7:19pm
Joe:

Live on CD?
  7:19pm
bloopy:

it happened at the time they were talking about layering etc.. i wonder if that was intentional or not
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:21pm
dale:

sure it's just cd player number 2 on the fritz.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:24pm
Marcel M:

@BOB: Would be easy to do that live.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:24pm
Marcel M:

could have also been prerecorded and they just pressed play at that moment
Avatar 7:24pm
bobdoesthings:

@marcel.. if so, devon is one slick professional. to keep his voice and interview in a steady manner and fuck with the controls to do so.. unless there is a third party...?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:25pm
Marcel M:

The lady, Bob.. she is a musician after all. They have magical powers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:26pm
Marcel M:

This does sound prerecorded to me now though, or they are playing the clips very very fast.
Avatar 7:27pm
bobdoesthings:

indeed if he's this slick with going back and forth from intevriew to dialogue.. seems prerecorded. So our consensus is that this WAS indeed intentional. See what happens when we work together :)

evening.
wanted to hear Mica .. that early tripup threw me off .. lost patience. heard every word so i figure it was inteded. someone bein funny.

Ike:

Oops, I tuned in late and missed the skipping. Anyway, I really love Mica Levi's work on "Under the Skin." Too bad modern Doctor Who doesn't have a soundtrack one-tenth as cool as that. Its current composer, Murray Gold, has all the grace and subtlety of an anvil to the face. The show deserves better.

P-90:

Senor Ligeti will be remembered in centuries to come as one of THE key composers of the 20th century. I have spoken.
Oh, and Hi, DJ Devon. Fine show as always.
