You see a blanket on the ground. It's your favorite color, smooth and soft. You can sit on it, or lie on it. It's a flying blanket, and you are the pilot. You are in control. You can fly anywhere you wish, just by thinking about it. You are the pilot.

it's mostly a day to gather with friends, it doesn't happen often enough. we're in such a trap of culture, the social aspect of human-kind suffers from our hurry hurry hurry..
i'd like to see the holiday removed and have people create their own celebrations, which we do, but this regimentation of when we are allowed to stop working.. and i really hate the hoopla over the manufactured reason for it.

but i love to meet, gather with friends, and eat and soclialize.

Dan.. the ONLY played integral versions of Mittwoch-Gruss & Wednesday-Gruss. Why never played Octophony from Tuesday from Light?? Thank him I discovered the electronic music of Licht more than 10 years ago !!!

.... Freitag-Gruss

Dan Bodah:

@annie, yes, I love the gathering/celebrating aspect, and the idea of a holiday (holy day) for thankfulness is also satisfying. The history is pretty awful though, and I have friends and acquaintances who are American Indians so I cannot help but feel the crappiness of the history.

Morning all.

Let me use this chance to say how much I'm enjoying Vocal Fry on the archive Dan, don't get a chance to comment live because euro-timezones.

@Alessandro, grusse!

@Jason, ah excellent, I'm glad you've found it -- I'm always looking for ideas about types of music and artists who would fit in -- extended vocal techniques of all kinds welcome...you can email me at danbodah at gmail dot com...

Bonjour Dan ! and Happy thanksgiving to all american listeners

the Canterbury wood-elf:

Hey Dan. Great sounds so far. Thanks for the subtle acknowledgement that "Thanksgiving" doesn't extend worldwide. Nice to be reminded, as we're getting bombarded with "Black Friday" promotions here in the UK in the last couple of years, despite almost no one here having a clue what that means.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:48am
Dan Bodah:

@pierre, bonjour! @Canterbury wood-elf, good morning kind sir. Right now I doubt many Americans are listening, so it seems almost provincial to act like our holiday means much to y'all...

Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi, Dan and folks from near and far. In a remarkable coincidence, 3 Down in today's crossword puzzle has clue "Gone with the wind" and the answer is "AIRBORNE." www.uclick.com...

I saw the Magic Band live last week! Only Drumbo left, plus some young recruits (Rockette Morton missed the tour, recovering from heart surgery), but WOW! what a band! I only discovered Gary Lucas the day before that gig when reacquainting myself with the Beefheart back catalogue. "Ice Cream For Crow" and "Doc at the Radar Station" are now among my favourite albums of his.

George of Troy:

Good morning Dan and crew! It's been quite a while since I last caught an Airborne Event.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:30am
Dan Bodah:

@Jeff & @duke, heya! @CW-E, I've never seen them - but had Gary here at WFMU about 2 years back for a set of Shanghai film music from the Edge of Heaven record, a complete pleasure. The more I listen to those later era Beefheart records, the better I like em!

Uniformly excellent choices today. Thanks, and hope to hear you back on air soon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:39am
Dan Bodah:

@Listener142985, thanks for checking in -- you can catch me every Mon at 7pm-8pm with my new show Vocal Fry, wherein I play music featuring weird vocal techniques such as throatsinging, eephing, beatboxing, konnakol, yodeling, joiks, etc. The archives are at wfmu.org...

fwiw, i'd love to suggest to the powers that be who are reformatting the website: please be sure to remember to show the daily shows again. i miss the roster for the day, especially when there's a sub., thank you... and carry on!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54am
Dan Bodah:

Annie, it's still there -- at the bottom of the main page. It's taking me a while to get used to this new format but overall I think it will end up being much easier on the eyes...

I have heard that show and like it. Liking your Airborne Event mix maybe even more. And is that name a White Noise reference? Good book, great show title.

@Dan Have you featured any Celtic "mouth music" on Vocal Fry?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:12am
Dan Bodah:

@CW-E, yes, I have actually played a bunch of it -- lilting mostly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:13am
George of Troy:

+1 for DeLillo. I remember picking up White Noise in a used book shop probably 25 years ago, based on the title alone. From there I went down the rabbit hole as they say.

Listener Robert:

Art Bell is under serious threat -- horrorreport.com... . Radio (& streaming) is a medium of great intimacy, which is nice in a way, but people can take things personally in a bad way too, & some of them are nuts enough to act on that. I'm thinking about that talker in Denver who was assassinated. Best wishes & may nothing like this happen to any of you.

Have a good weekend, Dan. Catch you on Monday again. Thanks for filling in today.
