when i was a little boy, we lived in Lafayette. One Mardi Gras, we went in to New Orleans for the fun, and a topless women on a float made direct eye contact and threw to my tiny self a Gizmo doll. Gizmo, from Gremlins, in "life" size. what a moment for a young blood! what a triumph of memory

How do, Doug and Drummerians!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:05pm Doug Schulkind:

My wife's half-sister (recently and dearly departed) lived in Lafayette! She was part of the well regarded Freret clan in Southwestern LA.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18pm Uncle Michael:

Seeing Galactic in 10 days with Trombone Shorty is as Mardi Gras as I get...other than *this*.
  6:18pm Diane:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:19pm Doug Schulkind:

My lovely wife's mother was from New Orleans. She grew up in a house her father built just a block from the levy in Carrollton. 8630 Oak Street. For the last 10 years of her life, my mother-in-law was slipping deeper into dementia and for most of that time, she thought she still lived at 8630.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:20pm Doug Schulkind:

She moved away from 8630 in the early 1940s and had never lived there since.
  6:20pm Diane:

Awww. That's such a great neighborhood - very close to my old neighborhood, and I'd walk in your mother in law's neighborhood every morning. I can see how those roots would pull her back in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:23pm Uncle Michael:

One of my dad's fraternity brothers runs this joint in NOLA.

@Diane
Her family owned a bakery right across Oak Street for years. We have an old receipt from the bakery framed on our kitchen wall here. It bears this note: "Frog Loaves Our Specialty" !

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:33pm Doug Schulkind:

We were searching for an explanation of frog loaves before the Internet! Finally found out that they are a kind of sandwich-size bread concoction.
  6:34pm Diane:

Exactly right.

Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:19am Brian in UK:

If I am honest, New Orleans is the one place in the US that I would like to inhale. It strikes me as being a portal to somewhere else, no idea where but that is part of the trip.
