Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Happy Birthday Uncle Michael
I wonder if anyone has bothered to collect the songs sung at birthdays before the "Happy Birthday To You" song was written. I recall my first grade teacher had one that started with a descending melody, going: "Light the candles on the cake, __ is __ years old today ...." but I don't recall the rest of it.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm

I will say, Don't pass me by was a worse Ringo composition than Octopus's Garden. Maybe that's just because Octopus's Garden was better executed by the whole band.

Mike! I don't have kids! I don't care!

I don't mind "Birthday" at all, it's a rockin' song. Worse than that? Oh so many to choose from. "Yellow Submarine", "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da", "Revolution 9", "Octopus' Garden", "Hey Jude", "Wild Honey Pie". I admit I cheated and googled "worst beatles song" for reminders. (Yes although I'm a baby boomer, I am not a Beatles lover, why do you ask?)

Which two songs, Annie?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm

Also throwing this out there: I have had too much fun at too many birthday parties where "Birthday" was drunkenly blasted to have a strong negative opinion of it.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm
JP from KC:

My feelings exactly, Flash Strap. I think that's why it's better executed than Don't Pass Me By. Don't Pass Me By takes itself way too seriously as a song. Octopus's Garden is a fun little ditty. that's all it was meant to be, and as such, it's pretty good.

"I'd rather see you dead, little girl/than to be with another man" is a line from "Baby Let's Play House", so there may have been some ironic distance happening.

Agreed, @chroma. I'm a horrible, horrible singer (maybe one Hoof 'n' Mouth will reveal this, one day) but "Lovely Rita" somehow falls into my super narrow range. Mostly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm

It's partially a homage to Elvis' "Baby Let's Play House" and the sentiment wasn't all that alien at the time. After all there were songs like "Git to Gittin'", "Better Not Burn My Beans", and several thousand C&W songs
