Cheapest place to eat in probably both Twin Cities downtowns is At Miguel's. $2.00 tomato and egg sub, $1.50 hummus and pita.

Damn it, it's cheaper and healthier than the vending machine...

Not today, @RTD. But yesterday was onion kulcha (poor), soya methi malai (good), and veg samosas (excellent). Today was ricotta & veg lasagna. So tasty that, indeed, I may have snorted it a bit. (stomach rumbles)

@Cecile: Wow, that's serious value there. I work in a touristy area, so prices tend to be outrageous. I just skip lunch
Avatar 1:13pm
Cecile:

it does good business, but it should be mobbed. Fortunately, people are a little scared of the place. You know, Spanish and Lebanese food from a friendly father and son....people are weird in St. Paul, man.
Avatar 1:14pm
Rev. Turnip Druid:

What Fred said. Super tourist prices here (2 blocks from white house) -- Hence we cried with joy when the food trucks happened...
Avatar 1:17pm

the food truck craze has kind of stabilized. A couple of them have actually turned into restaurants.

We have a bunch of food trucks in Buffalo...I look forward to trying one....I think they should have BAR trucks so people could get a beer in the park....yeah, that would be workable, sure!
Avatar 1:21pm
Wild Neil:

This reminds me of Suicide.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm
fred:

Actually, food trucks around here are total hype-fueled rip-off jobs. Seriously, you can't get anything for less than €10. And that would be a salad. Brick and mortar stores are way cheaper
Avatar 1:21pm

Mueran Humanos reminds me of Suicide...the band that is, not the act of...

Thanks @Chris M! Nice one, would also work as a great loop.

Fred-no offense but if Paris is like NYC I am willing to bet almost anything at any restaurant is $10 these days...or ten Euros....

that's too bad, Fred. I do think that they are not quite the discount they used to be, but there are still some good ones out there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm
fred:

@Neil: if you ever go to Paris, the trick is to go off a big street, the turn randomly once or twice. You'll find a nice, cheap place. The help does have to eat/drink somewhere
Avatar 1:27pm
Cecile:

Can you still get good stuff at the open air markets? If I even ended up there, I would be buying a lot of sandwich/salad fixings there...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm
Michael 98145:

@cecile, last time i was in the twin cities i was impressed by the large number of somali now living there. over here on the left coast immigration is largely from southeast asia. we are all immigrants from somewhere.
Avatar 1:29pm
Rev. Turnip Druid:

$7 lunch is the low average at the trucks here. Which is marvelous compared to the fiscal violence @ pret & similar horrors in the area.
Avatar 1:32pm
Cecile:

Oh, we have a lot of southeast Asian immigrants, too. For a long time, St. Paul had the most Hmong people outside of Laos/Cambodia/Vietnam.
Avatar 1:33pm

but yes, immigration has increased. No longer am I told I "look ethnic".

We are providing backline for that Prospect Park gig. Biggest job we have in an otherwise very slow week.
On the thread of overpriced NYC food, my boss just bought me some mock duck drunken noodle for lunch. An hour late on the delivery, but I can't complain since I'm not paying for it. Now I can save my prosciutto sandwich for dinner.
