Now I want to go back and listen to the Big Boys version of Hollywood Swinging.

G'TZAG, Marty and everybody! It's funny, it says 'The "New York" Sound' on that Kool & the Gang 45, when they were straight outta Newark.

Bronwyn Bishop:

Good morning Marty and everyone. Lovin these funky singles

Cheri Pi:

they had a 45???
Avatar 9:25am
PKNY:

"Silver Machine" was a big hit in England, if I remember correctly. I even think Hawkwind were on Top of the Pops.
Avatar 9:26am
PKNY:

Is Lemmy of that 45 sleeve?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26am
Ken From Hyde Park:

Good Friday morning! This song is why I drive a silver automobile.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30am

good quesetion PKNY!
I asked that myself (iit is the German pressing).
Could be the company used a dated photo.

Bronwyn Bishop:

I've loved this song since I was a kid
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41am
Sem Chumbo:

hahaha Mrs. Miller.
Avatar 9:42am
Bronwyn Bishop:

Always love to hear my homie Mrs. Miller. I played this very song on my radio show in college and apparently ruined a romantic moment between two of my friends (I'd been playing some nice romantic tunes that they were getting steamy listening to, and then this...)
Avatar 9:43am
ausmanx:

if you're up for Mrs Miller, i figure you're gonna dig out Russ Abbot again tonight, huh, Marty?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43am

...especially the whistling interlude, BB.

Got any more info about Rec. & Lime?
Avatar 9:44am
Chris from DC:

This is very cool at 33.
Avatar 9:44am
Bronwyn Bishop:

I love 45s at 33, especially Dolly Parton's Jolene. They just sound so mysterious and great...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45am

Stevie Nicks without cocaine?

It wouldn't be Halloween without a witch.

Stevie Nicks on qaaludes.
Avatar 9:51am
PKNY:

The classic '45 on 33'- the Winstons' "Amen Brother", at least the breakbeat portion.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51am
Ken From Hyde Park:

Has anyone taken a Metallica or Megadeth 45 and slowed it down? Would it still sound faster than the typical record?
  9:53am
Georgesimian:

Sounds like that's happening now. Speed that shit up.
Avatar 9:53am
PKNY:

@Ken - I know that at least in Europe, Metallica had released a 2xLP version of "Master of Puppets" in the 80s that played at 45 RPM. So you could listed to the whole record molasses style!
  9:53am
Jeffy Jazz:

Wow, I didn't know Michael McDonald did a cover of this.
  9:53am
DJ_Guy:

This is my shit thank you
  9:54am
Jeffy Jazz:

Singles Going Steady... @ 33 1/3!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54am
Fuzzy:

Slowing it down seems to enhance the reverb somehow.
Avatar 9:55am
Marty McSorley:

(i always throw more reverb on it when i slow um down, makes um more epic)
  9:55am
Jeffy Jazz:

That Neil Diamond tune sounds creepy at any speed.
Avatar 9:55am
PKNY:

The one bad thing with the '45 at 33' thing: if it's a song you really don't like, it takes that much longer for it to finish.
Avatar 9:57am
PKNY:

What, no Above the Law on 45?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02am
Ike:

Tiresome reminiscing alert: Back in the early-to-mid-90s, Diane Kamikaze was the queen of 45s at 33 for a while. It was a regular feature on her show. One a week. I don't remember any other DJs doing it then (except Ken sometimes).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03am
Fuzzy:

Killer bass line.
  10:05am

Thx for the update on Rec. & Lime. Super cool track. Great lyrics. Good find!
  10:05am
Stuart:

When I was a college radio DJ back in the early-mid 1970s, I mistakenly played a 45 of "10th Avenue Freezeout" at 33rpm, and it was amazing. Bruce never sounded so Stax, and I was never a Bruce fan (still am not), and the program director gave me grief.
Avatar 10:07am
PKNY:

Surprised you did give the 33 treatment to "Jungle Fever".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15am
Barney Grubbs:

Used to have a portable record player that went down to 17 rpm--made the garage sale CCR record that somehow got left on it sound like the melvins
  10:17am

Marty McSorley DJ'd my wedding. It's true. And now he's initiating my transition to the weekend quite smoothly...
