I didn't see the New Yorker article, but I was at NJ PAC for a different show when she was at the main stage. We had time to watch her on a TV monitor in the lobby for a while, and she didn't do much singing for a while, just strutting her stuff (which I suppose she's entitled to do...)

Of course, having Chuck Israels (bass for Bill Evans) as teacher, with a substitute teacher like Lee Konitz (who brought his horn and did lessons on electric Miles) didn't hurt. Of course, I didn't yet know who these folks were when I took the course

I think Disco came back in a BIG way in dance music past decade or so (got its revenge), the 4 beat unchanging bass drum rhythm is there as strong as it ever was.

@Scraps: looks like they're going full digital instead of refurbishing their aging FM broadcast infrastructure. Makes a certain kind of sense, I guess, though I do cry for those driving cars with no digital capabilities.

National Norway radio operations going digital for what they regard as better clarity and reliability. Local stations will be out of it a few years later. But for a few reasons not everyone's thrilled, will have to get converters "...two million cars in Norway — a country of just five million people — don't have digital audio broadcasting receivers."
