  7:07pm
Hypertoast:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:08pm

I think cannolis are filled with sweetened ricotta. Yum.
Avatar 7:08pm
Linda Lee:

Avatar 7:12pm
emily:

2006-2008 and 2014-2016! I just moved back to the city this past year.
Avatar 7:13pm
Linda Lee:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:14pm
dale:

Tommy Jack Haynes:

Everything and anyting that's popular becomes corporatized
Avatar 7:14pm
Old Dave:

I'm sorry. Vince Termini in the Philly market knows what a proper cannoli is.
If you ever had one, you'd agree.
Avatar 7:15pm
emily:

it has changed a LOT--even from the first time I lived there to the second (which is one of the reasons I came back here) but I do miss it a whole bunch. I had a great radio family there at ashevillefm and I miss them, too!
Avatar 7:16pm
kimzilla:

But rate them... canolli, cake, pie, ice cream and pie. 1-5. 1 being the best.
Avatar 7:16pm
kimzilla:

canollis can't be on the top 4, sorry.
Avatar 7:16pm
Linda Lee:

what is ashevillefm? any connection to Free Radio Asheville?
Avatar 7:16pm
kimzilla:

sorry, canolli, cake, ice cream, cookies, pie...
Avatar 7:16pm
Linda Lee:

i could look it up, but i'd rather chat with you :-)
  7:16pm
Tommy Jack Haynes:

And speaking of NC--I'm from there . If I ever moved back, I'd move to Asheville
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:17pm
dale:

couple of drag shows i saw in the 90s was just that - lip synching. who really cares?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:17pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

Listener annie, who is on the chats in the mornings and some Drummer chats, is in Asheville.
Avatar 7:18pm
Linda Lee:

amazing to find the asheville connection on the boards :-)
Avatar 7:20pm
Linda Lee:

80s east village was lovely all around. vibrant & fun.
Avatar 7:21pm
emily:

I know! I was so excited to see someone else from avl on the board. Ashevillfm is also known as Asheville Free Media--103.3. It's a great freeform station owing a LOT to FMU.
Avatar 7:22pm
Linda Lee:

emily, is that a legal statioin? FRA was pirate radio
Avatar 7:22pm
Linda Lee:

excellent station!
  7:23pm
Tommy Jack Haynes:

I run into a lot of people that live, have lived or want to live in Asheville
Avatar 7:23pm
emily:

it is! used to be an internet station but just got on the terrestrial airwaves in 2015!
Avatar 7:24pm
emily:

yeah, weirdly I run into a lot too! small world, considering it's such a small town...
Avatar 7:24pm
Linda Lee:

oh wow. there's a switch! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:24pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

Went to Atlanta years ago to visit an aunt. We took a day trip to the Biltmore mansion in/near Asheville. ¯\(°_o)/¯
  7:25pm
Tommy Jack Haynes:

The daughter of best friend from NC is a DJ on Asheville Free Media
Avatar 7:25pm
Linda Lee:

hope you got to look around outside the Mansion, Ken. such a nice town
Avatar 7:27pm
Linda Lee:

i'll have to check out AFM! not that surprised to hear about AVL up north really. it's always been a bit of a hub!
  7:28pm
Tommy Jack Haynes:

The Biltmore House tour is not cheap ..but worth every penny
  7:28pm
Tommy Jack Haynes:

This person really has a handle on the scene
Avatar 7:29pm
kimzilla:

This Asheville discussion is enough for an episode!
Avatar 7:29pm
Linda Lee:

never saw the Biltmore at all, believe it or not. & i knew 2 musicians who gigged there for the holidays
  7:30pm
Tommy Jack Haynes:

I've done the tour twice and could do it again
Avatar 7:31pm
Linda Lee:

wish i still had my Free Radio Asheville cassettes, kimzilla! that was a great reflection of the AVL's leftist community when it existed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:31pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

It was a lot of hours behind the wheel to get there, Linda. We headed back south after the tour. May have to take a road trip there at some point. I'm within walking distance of one of the Vanderbilt's mansions right now.
Avatar 7:33pm
Linda Lee:

that is a long trip for sure. i'd love visiting again myself.
Avatar 7:34pm
Linda Lee:

love his take on the art of drag.
Avatar 7:35pm
Linda Lee:

really great photos!
Avatar 7:37pm
Old Dave:

Please don't mention the Mummers' Parade. It actually happened a few days ago... current events irrelevant on this show. Let's ignore the longest-running drag event in American history.
Avatar 7:38pm
Linda Lee:

i don't know if famous gender-bending artists have an impact on societal norms. it's one thing to approve of a 'perfromer' at a distance, another thing to be confronted with trans individuals as individuals. trans people are no less endangered now than we've ever been.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:42pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

Listener Cecile has mentioned drag shows occasionally.
Avatar 7:46pm
Linda Lee:

it's all drag .. even when the women dress like women
Avatar 7:47pm
Linda Lee:

it's all performance.
Avatar 7:47pm
kimzilla:

Good point Linda. Were all on some sort of stage.
Avatar 7:48pm
Linda Lee:

of course! some is normalized, some isn't ..
Avatar 7:48pm
Linda Lee:

.. in terms of the dominant cultural paradigm
  7:48pm
Tommy Jack Haynes:

Drag Queens view women as powerful so they want to be in that position......of course this isn't the only reason they do it
  7:49pm
Tommy Jack Haynes:

She was really interesting
Avatar 7:52pm
Linda Lee:

that's 'taking power'
Avatar 7:53pm
Ike:

Cannoli is lame! It looks so alluring but that (slightly) sweet ricotta never lives up to the appearance. It never tastes like anything. Cookies destroy, demolish, and devastate cannoli!
Avatar 7:54pm
Linda Lee:

i think a good cannoli will deliver as promised, Ike! they can be heavenly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

Bring the drag show to Monty Hall!
  7:55pm
Paul D:

Definitely go to Linda Loves Bingo, it's really fun.
Avatar 7:55pm
Linda Lee:

brilliant idea Ken. who's in charge of booking Monty Hall?
Avatar 7:55pm
Ike:

Nah, ricotta just isn't for me, probably. I don't like it in lasagna either.

YES! Somebody bring a drag show to Monty Hall! I'd go to that!
Avatar 7:56pm
Linda Lee:

if you don't like ricotta you won't be happy with cannoli, for sure
Avatar 7:56pm
Old Dave:

Ike, don't buy cannoli at Walmart.
It is a fresh and very sweet pastry
available at Termini's Bakery in Philly.
No cheese involved...
  7:57pm
sugarwolf:

Omg yes to a drag show at Monty Hall.
Avatar 7:57pm
Linda Lee:

you're convincing me to look them up online O D
Avatar 7:58pm
Ike:

IIRC, at least a couple of FMU DJs have done marathon Hoof & Mouth finales in drag in the past.
Avatar 7:58pm
Linda Lee:

they will deliver!!! oh gosh!
Avatar 7:59pm
Linda Lee:

i'd like some real drag, not one off jokes, personally
Avatar 7:59pm
Old Dave:

Vince and Barbara will not fail you, Linda. Great people.
Avatar 7:59pm
Linda Lee:

Excellent!!!
Avatar 8:02pm
Old Dave:

They do offer ricotta, but go with the chocolate Italian cream.
Avatar 1:38pm
Cecile:

I can't wait to hear this show!
I am an avid drag fan, and go out a lot in Minneapolis.
