This is where all of culture and all of time are collapsed into one seductive portal and viewed through the panoramic lens of the exotic. Come and embark on an armchair-travel virtual-voyage to the heart of timeless darkness and beyond; embrace the numinous monolith of the exotic immensity. Let us find that place where hybridization meets its destiny as pure fantasy. Let us become observers observing those others who are ourselves. You wear your mask and I'll wear mine.

Hi Flash and all! Killer show thusfar; disco has been the major source of solace and inspiration for me since November.
Avatar 7:24pm
Flash Strap:

Hi LD! I haven't been taking refuge in disco in particular, but I've definitely been taking a little break from the illusionism of exotica, etc. and spending more time with the more direct, visceral sounds of funk, calypso, reggae, jazz. And disco! It's a healthy tonic, and it feels more right in this moment, at least for now.
Avatar 7:24pm
Flash Strap:

@justJ: such a blouse for a guitar man
Avatar 7:25pm
Flash Strap:

this is a fine jam with a SHATTERING instrumental section
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:26pm
Little Danny:

Totally, I had to take a break from exotica for a while, too
Avatar 7:26pm
hyde:

whoa, i'm late. spaced out listening to mitsuaki kanno and then vlc player went straight went into mob 47. now transitioning from japanese free/modal jazz and swedish hardcore to african disco. i'm starting to feel like a renaissance man.

i've been thinking about this song nonstop. i dreamt about it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:40pm

Big hit back in the day; big in dance clubs.
Avatar 7:41pm
Flash Strap:

Probably the most mindbendingly severe single of its moment in club culture. feels like a revolution, 'cause it is a revolution
Avatar 7:43pm
Flash Strap:

i mean this shit is scary! you have to fall in with it because if you don't, it'll destroy you!
  7:43pm
JtotheK:

Hi Flash and Explorers. Excellent boogie tunes! Can only tune in for a bit but will check out full show via archive.

Hi J_K!

Avatar 7:47pm
hyde:

i'm not really a connoisseur of early analog synths and drum machines (though i do know nothing sounds quite like an 808) but i love that rhythm bit that sounds sort of like clapping that is all over early 80's stuff
Avatar 7:48pm
hyde:

well, now, ok, that bass line i know
  7:49pm
JtotheK:

@Little Danny - looks like it'll be an early bedtime for me tonight, but will be heading to the archives for your show later!

Avatar 7:54pm

such a cool slice of culture-interaction, this
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55pm

It is like Good Times/Rappers Delight.
(spent much too much time in dance clubs in the 80s)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55pm

J2tK and Hyde - PERMISSION DENIED! C'mon now y'all can manage a bit of grogginess tomorrow
Avatar 7:55pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55pm

A bit of reggae rhythm mixed into the Good Times riffs...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55pm
Little Danny:

I kid of course. But it won't be the same!

Here comes the guilt trip!
Avatar 7:57pm
Flash Strap:

This has been my obsessive jam all week. So cool it came out on Clappers, too, which was a NYC label mainly dedicated to militant(esque) reggae
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:57pm
doctorjazz:

All this stuff brings me back...
Avatar 7:58pm
Flash Strap:

I MEAN DAMN

Avatar 8:17pm
Flash Strap:

No but now I want to!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:18pm

I love early techno, house and electro dance sundries but I'm overwhelmed at the prospect of educating myself about it
Avatar 8:20pm
Flash Strap:

yeah me too, LD. I may be a permanent novice
  8:24pm
MrFab:

Early hip-hop/breakdance electro was amongst my first fave kinds of music actually. Used to buy lots of 12" singles, listened KDAY outta Compton, haunt record shops on those sides of town. Black kids thought it was amusing that I knew who the Fat Boys were.
Avatar 8:24pm

this track is so cool

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11pm
Little Danny:

  9:11pm

There was def a New Wave/electro funk crossover in those days. Kraftwerk and Gap band fans crossing the aisle.
