@David sorry to miss your show but the week caught up with me early.
See you played Souad Massi, Deb is one of my favourite albums. She seems to have gone a bit western recently recording a track with Paul Weller.

One thing you might want to do to save fundraising cost -- maybe you've thought of this already -- is to not send physical mail solicitations to those who've been donating exclusively electronically.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20am David D:

Where's that pledge link again? Oh here it is...
pledge.wfmu.org...
  10:23am Listener Robert:

I used to send checks, but in recent years only PayPal, and thought that if you responded to the trend, you might save by not physically mailing the solicitation. Of course it's possible some donors may go back to checks, or may keep a physical mail address and change e-mail address, but I don't know whether that justifies a routine letter mailing.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24am Doug Schulkind:

@Listener Robert
The poobahs at the station have debated this. They understand the cost of physical mailings, but at this point I think they feel it is still critical to reach everyone possible. That is my understanding of the issue.

Oh, and Good Morning!

  10:29am Listener Robert:

The poobahs might try a controlled experiment, half & half, but they may consider it too risky.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:30am Doug Schulkind:

Thanks for the pledge, Andrew Waterloo!

@Listener Robert
We are nothing if not risk averse. We are pioneering and innovative, but risk averse.
  10:31am Listener Robert:

Avatar 🥁 10:31am βrian:

Sometimes you gotta risk a verse. Love letters come to mind.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31am Andrew Waterloo:

I like getting the mailing too, but I'll go online to read the information on the brochure while holding the brochure. But, I also understand the value of that physical connection with the mailing. Not something fans of vinyl can argue against.
Avatar 10:32am Jesse K:

The combination of music on this show is reason enough. But, this interactive listener community, and the other shows on the Drummer stream kind of pushes things over the top.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06am Doug Schulkind:

All roads lead to Tony, Listener James. Tis so true.
  11:07am Listener Robert:

James, I now have a comparison for that transition: the purchase of WNTI, Centenary College, to U. of Penn, who affiliated with NPR. Now their staff has essentially re-formed as Newt Radio on stream. They had the good fortune to have been ousted at a time when streaming audio was already a thing, and a friend who was a supporter of the arts who'd recently purchased the Newton Theatre. But would streaming even have been such a thing now had it not been for WFMU? Yeah, probably, but may have taken years longer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09am Stanley:

I always prefer it with the fuzz

Programmed properly (e.g., this GTD stream) (web-)radio is a medium for communication of information, knowledge, and most importantly enthusiasm about stuff that matters. Totally agree with Alex in IL @11:06.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10am Uncle Michael:

True fact: KJHK at the University of Kansas was the first radio station online (not first college station...first station), though UNC disputes this. And yes, KJHK is just another sucky college station now.

UNC meaning Univ of North Carolina, right? Not the Man from U.N.C.le Michael.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12am Doug Schulkind:

You absolutely may, Jesse K!

Recently put my money where my yammering mouth is when I subscribed after decades of deprivation to Fanfare ("The Magazine for Serious Record Collectors"). Like WFMU's best, it is both an education and an inspiration. The reviewers are hella smart and knowledgeable. Better, one quickly learns what they like, what they don't, and why.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13am David D:

There are so many reasons to support this station, stream, and this show in particular. I almost hesitate to mention the great prizes that are available this hour, but I will...

Amanaz Africa (2CD)

Soul Sok Sega: Sega Sounds from Mauritius1973-79 (CD)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15am David D:

And that's for pledges $20 and over - for $75 you automatically get the Give the Drummer Radio compilation CD, and are in the drawing for Bobo Yeye : Belle Epoque in Upper Volta (3 CD Box
w/176 page book)
Avatar 11:17am Lewis:

no, the threat is unambiguously existential ;-))
Avatar 11:17am Kris Holmes:

The Bobo Yeye box is incredible, Numero sent me the vinyl box when it came out & it blew me away, it was all new to me & fantastic. The photos in the book are incredible, the backstory is bananas & the music is outstanding!!!!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19am Doug Schulkind:

You are never alone when you're with Kris Holmes. Because, like, Kris is with you. Right there. But also metaphorically. too.
Avatar 11:20am Kris Holmes:

we are now out of bed dancing around the bedroom to Clifton heh

Avatar 11:24am Lewis:

@Doug - so if I do the math, GTDS must be up to about 20 DJs...!?

Late arrival, I'll take my demerits (Stoopid meeting...)
Go Drummers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26am Doug Schulkind:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26am David D:

Marathon or no marathon, I'm enjoying this set!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27am Alex In Illinois:

We just need about 10.13 more people to pledge $75 each. Or maybe 10 people to pledge $75, and one to pledge $10.
Avatar 11:27am Lewis:

(and of course you really only need the average song length to 3.5 min (equally music and nerd hear))
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29am David D:

Hey, doctorjazz!

The check is not in the mail. It's already in Auricle's bank acct.
  11:36am Joshua in Richmond:

Thanks for the shout-out. I'm looking forward this premium. We listen at our house because the main WFMU stream sometimes just needs to be turned off. This stream is next in line; it's consistent; and it sometimes even has kwela.

Whoo-hoo! Way to go, pledgers! Way to go, Doug!!

I always admired Tamil script, so much that when I'd vacation as a kid with my parents I'd hunt down the Gideon's bible in the hotel room to find the array of scripture translated into various languages, including Tamil.
