Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:12am Doug Schulkind:

Info on this Harry Kandel track:

These fourteen acoustic recordings of klezmer music were recorded between 1917 and 1921. Kandel was a Ukranian clarinetist who settled in Philadelphia and, as bandleader, recorded over 90 performances. His core group was comprised of clarinet, cornet, trombone, piano, drums, and xylophone. The energy and joy of classic klezmer music -- equal parts Eastern exotica and primitive jazz -- weaves and bobs through these performances, simultaneously festive and martial (Kandel's stint with John Phillip Sousa left a mark on his arrangements). Such titles as "Lebedik Un Freylekh (Lively and Happy)" and "Khosn Kale Mazel Tov (Congratulations, Bride and Groom)" suggest the mood here.

Here is Peter Doolan's description of Honey Sri'Isan:

A classic cassette from one of my personal favorite molam pop stars. Honey Sri'isan, from Kalasin, was a big name in her home region before becoming known nationwide as a model (she was the first and only molam to appear as a cover girl for Malai Thai Rath). This 1991 cassette contains the second of two albums she recorded for the Bangkok-based Thai-Muslim imprint Yanavy Sound. With compositions by the legendary Dao Bandon and music by A. Num Phuthai and his band, pop molam doesn't get much better than this. Sadly, Honey died just a year after this album when her pickup overturned on the way back from a concert in Sisaket. The location on the highway is still marked with a shrine where regular performances are held in her memory

Avatar 🥁 11:33am βrian:

I've got my bike up on the stand with a stubborn bolt frozen in the rear drop-out. Frustrating!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:33am doctorjazz:

Enjoy the mountain bike @annie-love mine (actually only get out on trails a handful of times a summer, but it is fun). Start slow n'easy...

Advocating anarchy is one of those things, like being "bored with politics", that necessarily denote privilege.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am Stanley:

"Your Love Has Got Me Chained and Bound"....mmmm, Alfreda.
  11:36am JtotheK:

Never listened to this side of Alfreda 45! The flip chained/bound is good, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39am Doug Schulkind:

@JtotheK
Yes me too. Only heard the flip before just now.
  11:39am Listener Gregory:

Is it my reception, or is this song lo-fi?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39am Stanley:

@Parq - unless you're a punk
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40am Doug Schulkind:

A crappy mp3, Listener Gregory. As is this Bobby Harris. Oh well. Life ain't a bowl of high-fidelitycherries.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:41am doctorjazz:

Almost the end, worked out to be fun, Doug!
Good luck on the papers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42am Doug Schulkind:

@doctorjazz
I could still really screw this up...
Avatar 11:44am mauri:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45am Jeff Golick:

...on Broadway?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46am Parq:

I think we can all agree that "High Fidelity Cherries" would be a good name for a band.
Avatar 11:46am still b/p:

They say the cats all cadge the tunes...on Broadway.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47am Doug Schulkind:

Always glad to SEE you, naked mauri!

The Stridells on one knee.. the power to dream a young man's dream!
Avatar 11:49am annie:

@DrJazz: this bike is a special walking bike called an "Alinker" for people whose walking is creaky. go ahead and look it up, you'll never regret it, it's a beautiful thing.
Avatar 11:50am mauri:

hands on my hips swaying.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50am Doug Schulkind:

Old man me can't get up from one knee.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50am melinda:

Interesting discussion regarding FM anarchy and pirate stations.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:50am doctorjazz:

Have to be careful with some of those stringed instruments when naked!
@annie, I'll take a look at it, thanks.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:50am Brian in UK:

Doug, I would like to say what a great show but....

  11:51am Mr C:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52am Parq:

"Fluorescent Plectrum" would also... well, you know.

Avatar 11:54am annie:

lovely show today doug... you keep setting the bar higher and higher.
Avatar 11:54am still b/p:

I've got the reflexive red flag awareness that says, "Should I go down at all to one or both knees?...okay, ginnnnnngerly." They mostly work fine, but they do be talkin' later if they been knelt upon.
  11:54am Listener Gregory:

Hmmm, does Raining Teardrops occur before or after Get Yo-self Married...?
Avatar 11:55am still b/p:

But I WILL kneel down to Drummer beneficence and blessings here this Friday!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57am Jeff Golick:
