I'm glad we're well beyond the California Raisin period where Grapevine is just it's own nice thing again. And I never liked them gimmicky dancing raisins in the ads!
Avatar 10:12pm

& still b / p!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12pm
Little Danny:

ha, I hated those damn raisins too, still b/p

Hi, Danny!

Ernie K-Doe! :D

That Ernie K-Doe was great
Avatar 10:19pm

We shoulda gathered in Comiskey Park one night to destroy all the California Raisin plush toys and gimcracks!
The beginning of Here Come the Girls called to (surprised) mind the Green Beret song.

I used to get groceries at the Bill Sears in Odessa -- and Green Stamps! I still have and use the red Igloo cooler my girlfriend and I acquired with the stamps in about '83. I assume the Bill Sears has not lasted as long.

Kris Holmes:

The Salados make me think what Jello Biafra fronting a TX garage band in the 60s might have sounded like
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25pm
coelacanth∅:

was buddy miles involved in those raisin bran ads? (not that i'd be surprised, but -was he?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26pm

hey g!
Avatar 10:29pm

Dean Beard and His Crew Cats sounds like a made-up name for a band that'd show up in a teen movie 50+ years ago.

Hey there Doug
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39pm
coelacanth∅:

wow i just did some research and i had no idea the clay raisins had such an impact.
people actually bought records of that?!...4 albums?!
Avatar 10:40pm
geezerette:

Love that weird echo in these old records. It's like music from "Outer Space".
Avatar 10:42pm
still b/p:

@ Danny -- When either of you two are on, I have to refrain from making references to the region which come up because of my few years' resident familiarity but which are barely relevant. Now, Bill Sears groceries...THAT'S powerfully shiny relevance right there!
Avatar 10:45pm
geezerette:

this voice knocks me out.
whole thing really, so relaxed & easy.
Avatar 10:46pm
Kris Holmes:

yep, just amazing how easy these guys made it sound
Avatar 10:47pm
geezerette:

& THIS!
Avatar 10:47pm
Kris Holmes:

Roscoe Shelton totally destroys it on this one for real & the arrangement is incredible
Avatar 10:50pm
geezerette:

I'm gonna shut up & work, but listening to the very last groove.

AND, where else could I even hear Roscoe Shelton?
Nowhere!
Avatar 10:52pm
still b/p:

I was gonna read a whattayacallit..a book...but I don't want to step away from the show.

Was talking to someone who's barely 30ish the other day about his interest in vintage soul and history and small labels. And I was warmed and reassured about the persistence of the music's appeal.
Avatar 10:57pm
Kris Holmes:

it gets you, once you get Soul it's very tough to walk away 100%
Avatar 11:03pm

just to prove it,had to say, better & better!
