i like your selection, selector. Igor represents the first classical music that i felt passionate about.

Stravinsky was a nice start....

bach's goldberg variations did it for me

Supersilent!

rich:

i wish supersilent actually had an exclamation point; they look so nice together
  12:27am
Dean:

Bach's Goldberg Variations are unfathomable. You can hear dozens of performances and a new one eventually appears. Bartok's string quartets are almost there, too. The only music about which I feel passionate, however, is Handel's Messiah, because it is about the Passion.

That underlying two note sequence in Supersilent glues the whole thing together.

Bartok was possibly my second. strangely it may have been years between digging Stravinski and really listening to Bach for the first time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35am
coelacanth∅:

hey did the color scheme change?
  12:37am
Dean:

Bach certainly approaches no. 1 for me, but of course there are Beethoven and Brahms and, for me, Monteverdi, medieval and Renaissance dance and sacred music, and gloriously tedious Telemann. Mahler. Bruckner. The French guys: Debussy, Ravel, Franck, Faure, Chausson. And so forth.

coelacanth∅:

Dean - i can't have a no.1. Stravinsky was my first....
i know very little about "the classics", but a diverse (limited) familiarity. i've never even heard of Franck or Faure; and i'm not really familiar with a few others you named.
i have felt very strongly about Bach, Vivaldi, Provokief, Mozart, Satie, Chopin, Schumann, Schubert, Rachmaninoff, Brahms, Saint-Saens, Ravel....
Beethoven the only thing i've liked so far is his piano concertos. Telemann sounds like a passionless Vivaldi to me! (that probably shows my ignorance, but i have listened. i liked him a lot at first.)
  1:02am
Dean:

coelacanth∅: Can't disagree a bit. Telemann is "passionless," which is why I love it. Tons and tons of suitable music. Who can complain? I adore Prokofiev and Rachmaninov. Do expose yourself at least to Franck's solo piano work. Paul Crossley's recital on Sony is gorgeous.

A tangent: Rodney Bingenheimer has been handed a pink slip. Goddammit. http://www.whittierdailynews.com/media/20170526/influential-kroq-dj-rodney-bingenheimer-talks-about-being-taken-off-the-air

Thanks Dean. i will check out that piano recital - at least!
-and maybe pull out those Telemann albums that i haven't touched in years.

Great to hear the agrarians, rich. when the fma started i downloaded over 20 agrarians songs. those are not up there any more.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19am
coelacanth∅:

oh-Thanks Dean! (i have to wait and use my other laptop for any internet videos.)
  1:23am
rich:

what's nice is going to don't trust the ruin's page and downloading everything they've placed up there (big blood, agrarians, sunwalker, tarpigh, etc.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28am
coelacanth∅:

hehe yeah i have 11 big blood albums!

...but i cannot find my agrarians collection!! i think i burnt a cd of it too, but i'm not finding that either!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39am
coelacanth∅:

ah, i found it.
- rich do you know anything about the rope river blues band? in the early days of fma i obtained that, along with the agrarians, and the voices and music sounded so similar to me that i figured they are the same band, essentially - or at least the same front guy.
  1:42am
rich:

if you go to their page on the fma it does look like they are related but, no, i know nothing about them but thanks for pointing them out coel
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48am
coelacanth∅:

okay.
so one more thing! i don't know what don't trust the ruins page you referred to but please note i paid for every one of my 11 big blood albums, via bandcamp! (maybe not much... but i never take the music without giving them at least something)

hmm i'm an hour off...maybe because i'm exhausted.
so i guess i'll go to sleep anyway.
