Does that goddamn piece of crap Mr. Softee jingle that dominates NYC (or s. Bklyn, anyway) have a name? I hate it! I'll use my magical powers to turn their speakers and tires into fish-butt-flavored gelato and melt their faces off of their faces! This jingle is SO much better. Some ice cream trucks in Newark have updated to this one, too.

Mayuko over on the Drummer Stream themed an entire show a few weeks ago around the supposed mafia-esque ice cream truck wars taking place in NYC : Mr Softee v. Master Softee (an excuse to play a bunch of songs about ice-cream). The very next week though I heard a truck here in Maryland playing the theme from the Godfather...

I don't live in Chicago, but there is a Zdzislaw Bekinski exhibit at the Polish Museum of America happening through early September - trying to get down there for it myself. International Museum of Surgical Science is cool as well. And of course the Chicago Institute of Art, Museum of Science and Industry, Adler Planetarium, Field Museum of Natural History. Mostly I go to a lot of museums.

@Liz: my wife LOVES Chicago. She would likely recommend the Chicago River Architecture Tour, where you get in a ferry-type boat and cruise the river listening to surprisingly interesting commentary. She also has an evolving checklist of restaurants--the Chicago food scene is reportedly dope.

And I haven't seen/heard it before - but there is a Harry Bertoia sound sculpture downtown Chicago as well - close to Millennium Park and the reflective bean, which are both fun to check out. And I second the Quimby's suggestion - that place is wonderful.

Dear Liz Berg (as opposed to "@"), speaking of Takashi Murakami, I believe he is the uncredited direct influence on the current style of "super flat" graphics so ubiquitous now that Apple has applied it to their OS. Remember when everything had to be all 3-D and drop shadowed? KILLED. Now it's got to be flat and lovely!
