	3:26pm The Oscar: The craziest thing about hearing all these Beach Boys sessions and snippets is the fact that they were assembled into incredibly accessible and successful pop records. You could just as easily taken the same material and built a difficult avant-garde masterpiece.

The "Shepherd's Pie" shows he did for NJ Public TV, for instance, are a good selection. 95% of his material (written or spoken) breaks down one of these ways: 1. Short-format comedian schtick, commentary on the contemporary scene. Not what he was best known for, but some of his best, underappreciated stuff IMO. 2. Stories of his semi-fictional shildhood, semi-fictional time in the Army, or probably-factual travels. 3. Talking about show biz or science from his perspective. 4. Unfortunately, Jew's harp, kopf spielen, & singing. Testing fan loyalty.
