Ridgewood Radio features concert recordings by adventurous bands and experimental musicians and restored archival tapes from private and institutional collections captured at venues large and small across the five boroughs of New York. It is produced by David Weinstein and Outpost Artists Resources operating out of the Ridgewood section of Queens, NY, where you'll find more yellow bricks than on the road to Oz and the cemetery of your choice is never more than a few blocks from home.

Shirley Bassey's Goldfinger for me, listener james.

Greetings, David and Ruth, and hope all's well in your hollowed-out volcano lair!

listener james from westwood:

@Stanley: That's my other co-fave!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm
Stanley:

It's those damned Mouse Boys in the house again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm
fred:

Good afternoon David and all.
If think Chris M once did a set using only covers of You Only Live Twice and Midnight Cowboy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm
Stanley:

Yay! James.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm
Webhamster Henry:

My favorite Bond theme is Dr. Evil.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:11pm
weinstein:

Hey all. Outside of the Bond themes, have you dug the John Barry score to Dances with Wolves?
Avatar 3:12pm
northguineahills:

I had no idea he did that, TBH, I can't recall anything Barry did after the 70s...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm
fred:

I now primarily associate John Barry with Beat Girl, because of Bob Brainen (I haven't seen that movie)
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:15pm
weinstein:

Check it out. It's beautiful but even more a masterpiece in construction, themes, sub-themes, characters.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:16pm
listener james from westwood:

Has Morricone Island done a John Barry show? I'd be surprised if he hadn't by now....
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:20pm
weinstein:

I guess Beat Girl is to Brainen what Mouse Boys are to this joint.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:23pm
weinstein:

I don't know if Devon Levin has done an all Barry show but he is all over that stuff regularly. Fab show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm
Webhamster Henry:

Yeah I wish Morricone Island were longer. Soundtracks are often operatic in scope and need time to play and discuss!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm
fred:

I love pipa!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:47pm
weinstein:

Are you getting yourself lost in this Fred? I think Min Xiao Fen gets in pretty deep, but also has fun.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51pm
fred:

I love this. It's deep, getting way beyond traditional stuff, without losing the character of the instrument. I wish I could see her play. Thanks to you, I'm checking her site once in a while, but no luck so far
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm
Stanley:

Me, too. I loved that last set.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:09pm
weinstein:

After a mysterious and poetic intro, Cécile shows an aggressive side. And keeps surprising.
Avatar 4:16pm
geezerette:

Love everything I've heard & am hearing.
Agree with Fred and Stanley about Min Xiao Fen.
David, your show always feels like meditation to me, love the way blank or negative space is used,
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:19pm
weinstein:

Thanks, geez. Ruth always punches me when there is silence. She wants nonstop action!
Avatar 4:20pm
geezerette:

haha!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:22pm
listener james from westwood:

I like the way geezerette phrased that and concur. Muy simpático with copyediting and proofreading.
Avatar 4:25pm
geezerette:

James, cheers!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:25pm

Long time FMU magic, and I guess radio in general, is that people are reading, writing, drawing, painting while they listen.
Avatar 4:28pm
geezerette:

Yes,it's wonderful.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:35pm
weinstein:

Broche has a newer release, built like this but with sounds from Paris, called 3D@Paris.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm
fred:

Yeah, that's why I like radio. I can do something else, while sometimes stopping when something arresting comes up
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:41pm
listener james from westwood:

I've been remiss in not mentioning to you both that last week's show was wonderful. I'd had a doc's app't in the middle of it and caught it on the archive. Very much enjoy that musical mode of expression.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:43pm
weinstein:

Thanks, James. That was a passion project. It's nice to know it connected.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:45pm
listener james from westwood:

I wouldn't say no to a pt. 2 if you had the material!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:51pm
listener james from westwood:

(But of course just a suggestion. One of the great joys of this program is I NEVER know what the 2 hours will bring until they begin!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm
fred:

Thanks David, as usual
Avatar 4:52pm
geezerette:

Thanks again,David and Ruth!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:53pm

Once I did that tuning show I got a lot of suggestions and comments from folks noting what what not there. And it is a lot. So stay tuned, as they say!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:55pm

Fred, geez, James, Stanley, Henry and all haunting the edges, thank yoooo!

Coming up right on this stream in just a few minutes, two hours of playful and surprising sound collage, with poetic live phone callers, cows, and Donald Rumsfeld.
