Listener comments!
9:02am : good morning bob!🥁 9:03am : Hi fellow Brainiacs🥁 9:03am : High praise for early Fleetwood Mac9:04am : hey h’lo9:05am : Early Fleetwood <ac, not to be confused with another group with the same name.9:05am : Good morning all.
Nice to start off with Peter Green!9:05am : MAC🥁 9:09am : Mornin' BB and all. Good to hear Chris Youlden's distinctive singing.9:09am : I've always loved Chris Youldens' voice. So distinct9:10am : Savoy Brown is one of those bands I should be into, but never got around to. I have a vinyl of there's that I only played once.9:11am : wake and bake yeaAA ..9:13am : Good Morning & Hello Bob & listeners. Great 2 start Sat. Morning with Fleetwood Mac w/ Peter Green & Savoy Brown. British Bloozz lives.
Hey JD, how ya doing.9:15am : Morning all, topic on my brain: bands that put out a debut album and then by the 2nd album there is almost a complete turnover of personnel. I'm not talking a gradual changeover, but an almost complete one from 1st album to 2nd. Like one original member left.
Savoy Brown is one. Only Kim Simmons. Renaissance is another-started out as a Yardbirds (!) offshoot and then zero originals and then the Annie Haslam era. What are some others?9:16am : Gotta keep on keeping' on, Doc!
Talk to you soon, brother!9:16am : Sisters Love sounds like a knockoff of the Staple Singers9:16am : Moody Blues?9:17am : Deep Purple?🥁 9:17am : Iron Butterfly?9:18am : Maybe I'm wrong. Could be that the Moodies and Purple just ditched their lead singers.9:19am : Love Repercussion. Love first two dB’s albums.9:20am : Third too, mostly9:20am : in Purple yes , but Moody blues , was a complete change from their 1st ,, and then Days of Future Passed for sure ...9:22am : East of Eden?9:23am : @Scraps, I love "Like This" (dBs #3, but w/out Stamey) too. Peter Holsapple wrote a great, insightful piece for the Times about trying to make "Love Is For Lovers" be a big hit and how he didn't really have the pipes for it.🥁 9:23am : Muhal Richard Abrams!!9:23am : R.I.P. Muhal9:24am : I think Geoff Nicholson (SP?) was the only one left after Mercator Projected9:25am : Good one Wm! 2 members left? Ingle and Bushy?9:26am : Purple, diff. singer and bassist?9:26am : Oh shoot, you’re right, Hughie. I’m talking about the fourth album, The Sound of Music.🥁 9:26am : Think so Bob. Some of the guys on the first lp joined/formed Rhinoceros?9:27am : Ah, no, Muhal!9:27am : SMALL FACES. Just what the doctor ordered.🥁 9:29am : Muhal makes a brief but memorable appearance in Medium Cool.9:31am : Butterfly-2 originals, Purple - 3 originals9:35am : The Michael you're referring to is Dunford.9:36am : Rod Evans was the original lead vocalist of Deep Purple9:41am : I don't know how anyone has the stomach to be an insurance salesman. Ives must have been one gregarious man.9:41am : Wallace Stevens: banker9:44am : The Snowman🥁 9:45am : The Emperor Of Ice-Cream - Wallace Stevens9:46am : 13 ways of looking at a blackbird9:47am : A high-toned old christian woman9:47am : Sounds like a band trying to imitate The Rolling Stones9:48am : Hi Bob and everyone!9:49am : Stewkey has to be one of the least-known single-named rock singers.9:55am : This is a Kinks songs that should have been more of a hit.9:56am : Kinks 'song'🥁 9:59am : I don't know if you can break it down by albums, but would Them fall into the category?10:02am : what's the theme music he just played10:06am : The Eric Clapton & The Powerhouse featured a very young Stevie Winwood.10:07am : not as young as when he was w/Spencer Davis Group10:11am : The Kennedy Center Honors missed a god opportunity to laud Fats Domino. Hopefully they'll turn their focus towards Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis10:13am : 'good' opportunity . My computer keyboard is a bit rusty today.10:27am : Shite.10:39am : Not sure if this would qualify regarding your initial query, but Elvis Costello's first album was recorded with a backing group called Clover, which eventually morphed into Huey Lewis and the News. After that, he assembled the Attractions, who became his formal band for years afterward.
Speaking of which, Bob, I don't think I've ever heard you play an Elvis song. I guess you're not a fan, but I wonder why. In my estimation, he's one of the greatest and most original artists in the history of rock.10:41am : BB, you should do an all 1960s/70s British folk show. That would be paradise for me.10:43am : The few who noticed Duncan Browne's late '70s group Metro probably considered them as ersatz Roxy Music, yet Metro's lone self-titled LP is a great collection.10:45am : PS - re: Elvis. Failed to mention, also, incredibly prolific, with a range of style I think is unmatched by anyone.10:45am : stevekos, the Elvis C. story is interesting, Gotta think on it... Clover w/John McPhee ->Doobies.
But no Hughie Lewis, right?10:48am : Wow. What a treasure trove of mediocrity.10:51am : Upthread, Wallace Stevens...not a banker. He, too, was an insurance executive.10:51am : Now that's what I call music!10:53am : Bob - Yes, John McPhee, and no Huey. Various members of Clover ended up with Huey, Doobies,
Toto, and Lucinda Williams. Footnote on My Aim is True - Clover didn't play on Watching the Detectives. It was the rhythm section from The Rumour, Graham Parker's band.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clover_(band)10:55am : Great version of Little Rootie Tootie! How's the rest of the album, Bob?11:01am : Great show Bob!1:01pm : Cat, whole lp is very cool! Thanks all!!
