Hello and good morning, Jeffrey, regulars, irregulars, the curious, the pre-shrunken, the shrink-free, et al.
One month before Christmas, today's forecast high here on the Atlantic coast of Nova Scotia is 13C / 56F. Surely, these must be the end times.

there have been early winters i've known that had warm temps...the turkey day meal i attended this week had the same temps as last year: mid-to-high 50s... cold at night... i find it fascinating to be alive to observe this climate shift... not an overnight process...temps on christmas day in upstate NY 35 years ago were close to 70...

And hello to Sem Chumbo, kimgland. Quiet holiday weekend here in the NYC area. I suppose, however, that the web is clogged with shoppers...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:38am
Sem Chumbo:

Hi, annie. Here, almost 1200 miles North North-east, of Asheville, NC, to have a day this warm is, as you say, a sign of a climate changing before our eyes. Here, on the estuary, river banks laid down when the French narrowed the Annapolis River in the late 17th century, are eroding. I find shards of pottery and dishes exposed at the bottom of 4 foot high river banks. Trees along the bank are dying, their roots submersed in salt water for half the day.
Here where we have a 29 foot tidal range, even a small percentage change makes an enormous difference in the shoreline. Shrunken planet indeed.

@KfHP: 2 years ago on a drive through the Canadian Rockies, over-nighted at a hotel opposite the Columbia Ice Fields, between Banff and Jasper National Parks. Let's say it was more field than ice. Time lapse photographs show it's speedy decline.

Lovely music this morning. Thank you, Jeffrey. Well, when Nature gives you a beautiful day---even if it portends the heat of Hel,l or high water---it is time to go for a walk. See you again, one and all.

annie:

see ya sem!!have a great walk!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:28am
Jeffrey Davison:

Mornin', duke. Planet Tyler: I dunno. Anerandros: No one should be surprised by the fact of artists getting squeezed out even more than in the past. There's still an amazing amount of work produced in the NYC area, but people moving in or around seem to have to take ever smaller spaces, with more people sharing the space...

breakfast is up! fresh hash browns with two fried eggs, over medium.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:08am
Jeffrey Davison:

annie: almost makes me wish I was in Asheville! However, you're going to have to dynamite me out of NYC. That being said, living in the New York area is getting even more crazily expensive, so probably will end up somewhere else, despite my love for this city.
Avatar 8:17am
hegel:

You should try Copenhagen. It's the most expensive place I've ever lived...
Avatar 8:17am
annie:

the hash browns were deliciously perfect, i blame the butter... jeffrey, now and then i think i want to come see NY again, i have a favorite place in chelsea i stay at. i do this in my mind only now as these legs just panic in crowds, let alone subway stations, which i miss..by now, i'me sure you accrued many many great memories from which to glean when you are idling on a beach...stay as long as you can, then travel a bit...come see us here!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:22am
Jeffrey Davison:

Hegel: Yeah, New York isn't the most expensive place, that's for sure. There's also a lot of things to enjoy here, for little or no money. Housing costs have risen dramatically in so many places...
Avatar 8:24am
hegel:

Yeah I wouldn't mind paying the living costs here if I had the same stuff to enjoy here as in New York

I must be grateful for Jeffrey and Jeff @ WFMU for bringing Jack rose back to my ears.
I seldom come to the idea to run his CDs.
"Not raga again ... " but it is great
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:27am
Jeffrey Davison:

Hegel: Any Danes that I ever met seemed such happy people. Would you say that the Copenhagen is a happy place?
  8:28am
Ewe Alone:

Coincidence. While I'm sitting with earbuds in, soaking up this show/tuning out my inconsiderate upstairs neighbors, I'm apartment hunting. In overpriced NJ.
Avatar 8:30am
hegel:

Jeffery: For sure. I love living here because we have universal healthcare, we get paid to go to university, it's very safe here and we have a lot of great history. Copenhagen is by far the best place to be in Denmark, it just suffers from a lack of places to live which means that they are incredibly expensive.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:30am
Jeffrey Davison:

Annie: yes, butter is good!
melinda, Ewe Alone: welcome...
Ewe: yeah, Jersey too...sigh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:32am
Ken From Hyde Park:

For funs, I just looked up most expensive cities in which to live. Copenhagen was #10 and New York #9, with Singapore as #1.

Thank you Jeffrey, for the sympathy, and the music :)

Is it just me or does this fahey song sound like Cristina Aguilera beautiful?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:36am

Ken: I suppose someone else, using even a slightly different set of analytics, would have a different list.
debt collector: I dunno. Anyone?
hegel: Copenhagen is a place I'd definitely love to see...
  8:38am
melinda:

Geographic wealth inequality used to be a concern for politicians of different leanings, now it isn't really discussed, and the legislation that prevented it has fallen by the wayside.
Avatar 8:41am
anerandros:

@Jeffrey Davison, sorry for the lag but I had lunch. I'm pleased to know that artists are moving around to smaller places. I wish there was some sort of community (e.g: my idea of what I'd call www.escapegentrification.org) portal to coordinate this. It is indeed these people that make a city or the cultural layers that make cities "cool" and then "profitable" toward the inevitable. If only there was a "gossip" around these relocations it would be actually amazing. I would use it and rather move to the "new place" instead of paying high rents in a rich kids city for an expensive rat race of a shadow city.

Thanks for some lively threads this morning, listeners. Obviously, the housing/gentrification issue is huge and cannot be adequately covered here. I'm glad that the issue is being discussed and hopefully something will come of it.
