Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25pm

There's a 45 edit of this track but you have to hear the full, LP version
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27pm
Uncle Michael:

Best falsetto? Eddie or Curtis?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28pm
Funky16Corners:

Eddie, though Curtis was a much fuller bench talent-wise, i.e. guitar, songwriter, producer, arranger
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:30pm
Uncle Michael:

I'll endorse that view.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:30pm
Funky16Corners:

I also like to think of Curtis's voice as kind of naturally high/sweet, less of an effort than a falsetto
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32pm
Jeff Ash:

Hm. I don't have this Eddie Kendricks LP. Makes note to get it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33pm
Uncle Michael:

I can hear that but it's definitely head-voice and not from the diaphragm.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33pm

Heard something today that intersected with a few interesting notes from FMU discussions in last couple months: the male vocalist on Mah Na Mah Na also did the whistling bits in the spaghetti soundtracks for Leone..such as For A Few Dollars More.

damn this song always transports me to specific time and scenario. ...lots of hash, sitting in a small rectangular room with only a red light bulb on the ceiling; talking about revolution when outside my friend's room disco and southern rock were the order of the day.

This album, almost moreso than Highway 61 is literary. Amazing songs filled with amazing words

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12pm

Mine too. I was only a little kid then, but it's now easy to see why people flipped over Dylan
Avatar 11:13pm
northguineahills:

I was a late-comer to Dylan, but this song etched it in my sonic psychology. (I think I came to this song when I was 26, but I started to like Dylan when I was 24).

I just listened to Mutations in my car last Friday (been listening my cd in abc order, b/c hey, my new to me car has a cd player that plays 20 year old cdrs).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14pm
Funky16Corners:

I love most prime-era Beck, but this album especially.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15pm
Funky16Corners:

Saw him live twice, once when he was touring for Loser and then again for Odelay (with Yo La Tengo opening), both great shows
Avatar 11:15pm
northguineahills:

Even Beck's crap is fun!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15pm
coelacanth∅:

i heard an interesting version of "masters of war" recently by Charles Lloyd and the marvels...interesting because i wouldn't expect a horn-based version of a particularly stark Dylan song to be good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16pm
Funky16Corners:

I'd like to hear that! Leon Russell did a cool version
Avatar 11:21pm
northguineahills:

Yeah, i've seen Beck twice live as well. My wife, and my ex-gfs all had crushes on him. Still, the best Beck connected show I saw was Peanut Butter Wolf (Beck's dj for Odelay) play for 30 people in a coffee shop wearing a white leisure suit ready to yacht rock out, dj. He (literally) burned through vinyl and used/abused vinyl I hadn't seen this side of Marclay/Yoshihide.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26pm

Severely underrated band. Damned by the omnipresence of Somebody To Love and White Rabbit. So much deeper. Also damned by We Built This City, but that is another thing entirely
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26pm
Funky16Corners:

Nite NGH!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29pm

More I cannot say.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35pm
Funky16Corners:

That sounds like a good thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35pm
coelacanth∅:

absolutely. Marty's voice was quite beautiful and she was subdued when they sang together. the 2 complimented each other.
...and maybe she pushed too hard when she had the full attention.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37pm
coelacanth∅:

i could go for some mulled cider
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37pm
Funky16Corners:

I was craving a crisp, hard cider, but I never drink on show night
Avatar 11:40pm

It's a good winter drink,isn't it?

On the other hand, hard cider, mmm...

What a lovely set. Perfect winter night mood. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40pm

i can count on one hand the times i've had a hard cider; but it sounds very good right now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40pm
Funky16Corners:

Thanks G!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41pm

I LOVE hard cider. One of my Christmas gifts was freezable pint glasses. A Stringbow Orange Blossom cider in one of those is a little bit of heaven!

Thank YOU, Larry!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42pm
Funky16Corners:

@C - Way back when, some friends led me astray into an Irish immigrant bar in Trenton, NJ where I was introduced to the wonders of cold cider on draft. It gace me the worst headache/hangover, but it tasted so good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42pm
coelacanth∅:

there's an overpriced but not entirely un-worth it "wine bar" in town that has mulled wine when it's cold out and it's pretty special.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42pm
Funky16Corners:

Mmmmmmmm
Avatar 11:43pm

That sounds great! Are actual orange blossoms ore peel used in brewing it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43pm
Funky16Corners:

I think so
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44pm
Funky16Corners:

They make a ginger and a cherry variety, too. Great and not overpriced.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45pm
coelacanth∅:

yeah i've never heard of that one. i know my usual pub has at least 2 brands of cider. i'm told one is not as sweet as the average cider. maybe tomorrow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47pm
Funky16Corners:

I like the sweeter ones, but a nice, dry cider hits the spot now and again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48pm
coelacanth∅:

i think i'd like a sweet one, but i'm much more likely to get a headache from that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49pm

The headache I got the first time I got drunk on cider felt like the grim reaper stepping on my head.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50pm

-oh, strongbow is from england; so i guess there's as much chance of me finding it here as you having it there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51pm
Funky16Corners:

I think it's shipped in from Belgium, but it's everywhere around here.I'm guessing some big conglomerate imports it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54pm

i'm looking for it. orange blossoms. the oil, known as neroli, is known in aromatherapy for anti-depressive action.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55pm

I'm a citrus nut, orange, lemon, lime flavors will always draw me in. My favorite drink in the world is the cool lime refresher at Starbucks. I could drink it all day long.
