	5:14pm djsheilab: Brian Cat—I think it's because I'm always looking for melody. And the 80s had a whole lot of it. Hence being attracted to the new bands who have that 80s aesthetic. So much new music is rhythm based, and it just doesn't move me in the same way.

	5:19pm Christine: I feel pretty strongly that melody has gone to shit in most chart pop today. Even some stuff with awful production in the 80s and 90s still had a decent melody.
	5:19pm Brian Cat: Rob, I agree about the lack of melody. I kind-of dig electronic music. The hits of today are not all synths, they are all about electronic sounds and the sounds are just not musical. I don't know what the major labels are trying to show us.

	5:21pm Jocelyn: A lot of modern pop just misses the point of what pop is. I always ask myself, exactly who are the audience they're writing this for? No melody, no real flow.
	5:21pm Rob Kopp: I don't like synthesizers. But of course it's the music from when you grow up (when you're in your teens) that you will always remember the best. I'm from '54 and started to listen to music in '66 and that year will always be the best pop year for me.

	5:27pm still b/p: It's funny how the taste systems of the brain go reaching and blocking and shifting. 1966 was an outstanding year for pop -- the top 100 is an unBELIEVABLE array. But I like music from nearly a hundred years ago through today -- though surely not all of it all the way through.

In a way it's strange (and a very big compliment) that an American deejay is pointing me to new Dutch artists like Sevdaliza and Luwten. I don't hear them on the regular Dutch stations, but that's probably because I'm not listening to Dutch radio

	5:36pm Cecile: I think the 80s are to modern kids what the 50s and 60s for us Xers and late Boomers. Far enough away so you can find gems in the trash that original listeners left behind and also you have a distance from the music while still loving it.

In a way it's strange (and a very big compliment) that an American deejay is pointing me to new Dutch artists like Sevdaliza and Luwten. I don't hear them on the regular Dutch stations, but that's probably because I'm not listening to Dutch radio

	5:36pm Cecile: I think the 80s are to modern kids what the 50s and 60s for us Xers and late Boomers. Far enough away so you can find gems in the trash that original listeners left behind and also you have a distance from the music while still loving it.
