hello rich and carcassoids
  12:06am
rich:

good morning coel, et al.

<that's an amazing thing. is it algae?
Avatar 12:07am
northguineahills:

Haven't seen any inflatable squirrel carcasses lately, but I had my landlord removed the bloated opossum carcass blocking my driveway (that would have been messy if I hit it)>
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09am
coelacanth∅:

ngh you said "opossum"! so there are others!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10am
coelacanth∅:

(...and rest in peace, poor opossum)
  12:13am
yippie:

so is this 2 pianists on 1 piano or they each have their own piano?
  12:13am
rich:

it is algae from the grounds of the Quinta de Regularia in Sintra, Portugal
  12:15am
yippie:

i usually dont love Debussy but that last one really got me going
  12:16am
rich:

4 hands one piano yippie
  12:18am
Dean:

That one was one piano, four hands.

Just listened to part of "One Too Many Salty Swift..." in honor of the divine CT.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18am

rest in peace.

- and i want to be there, in sintra.
Avatar 12:19am

Well, down in these here parts, they call 'em possums, but if I called them tlacuacuhes, no one would know what darn tarnation I was was babbling about!

Oh My, Cecil w/ Tony Oxley (SQUUUUUEEEEEEE!!!!!)
  12:19am
Dean:

I usually can't not love Debussy.
Avatar 12:20am
northguineahills:

Cecil Taylor, lord of the 88 tuned- drums....
  12:20am
rich:

i want to be there in sintra too, it was beautiful
Avatar 12:21am
northguineahills:

I've seen Cecil Taylor (3 times) an Tony (once), but never together.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22am
coelacanth:

i've never heard this. 'swonderful.
  12:24am
Dean:

I've also heard him three times, always solo. Once was at Victo, where he ran into trouble at the Canadian border. Consequently, John Oswald and Paul Plimley opened the show for Marilyn Crispell, who had been slated to open for Taylor. Oswald and Plimley performed (marvelously), and then Crispell (marvelously). And then Taylor arrived, after all. It's all caught on a Victo 3CD set.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25am
coelacanth:

as challenging as it is for normal mortals to play a Cecil composition it must be challenging even for him to play together on a piece like that.
Avatar 12:25am
northguineahills:

I understand why opossums are easily road kill. At night, twice in one week, I came across one while driving, and it just stared at me, hissed and nonchalantly walked away (that was a residential road, so I was going really slow). Then I was on major avenue, and one just lumbered like it had shits to give and I had to swerve around it.
  12:27am
rich:

i may have seen the show that was recorded at. it's from two nights at the village vanguard in november 2008 but there's no info on the record (which is ridiculously overpriced) as to which night the pieces are from.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27am
coelacanth:

yeah they don't seem very bright
Avatar 12:27am
northguineahills:

@coel: I saw him in his early 80s the last time, and I imagine his arthritis must had killed him, but he played as he always played. If I had the motor skills (and talent), my limbs would be bloody stumps.
  12:28am
Dean:

I just purchased that ridiculously overpriced LP. (Two LPs, really.)
Avatar 12:29am
northguineahills:

Still, Dean, you're a happy man (I know I would be).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30am
coelacanth:

maybe i imagine it but when i see pictures of Cecil his hands appear larger than his body would suggest they'd be.
it makes sense to me.
  12:33am
Dean:

Dude at Triple Point says of Taylor, "Working a full week of two sets nightly in July 2008 at the Village Vanguard..." Not just two nights then?
  12:34am
Dean:

Or does he specify that the recording captures moments from only two nights?
Avatar 12:35am
northguineahills:

I like that Cecil would walk around any club before and after each set in his crazy-colored-patterned sock feet. He loved his socks!
Avatar 12:39am
northguineahills:

@Dean: Knowing Cecil, it seems likely he played twice a night a week. The first time I saw him play I was djing in the basement at Tonic and had the early set, but Cecile played two that night so I got to see him the later set upstairs.
  12:39am
rich:

it was a week but i think the missus and i were at the november 6 show
Avatar 12:40am
northguineahills:

ugggh, giving up on English as my first language, too bad my 2nd-4th are barely intelligible by four-year olds.
  12:41am
Dean:

But now he's gone. Damn. I missed him at Grace Cathedral in SF a few years ago. A buddy went and loved it, naturally.
  12:43am
Dean:

How's the Monteverdi on this Garland set?
  12:52am
rich:

didn't get a chance to listen to the whole garland (it's 4 CDs) but i like what i heard earlier
  12:59am
Dean:

Difficult? Bored? I don't think so...
  1:00am
Dean:

Peace is okay. It's not false ideology.

Rich! Thanks for the radio as radio should be.
  2:35am
rich:

rw thanks
  2:53am
rich:

thanks for listening everyone, perhaps we can have two days of spring in a row this week or two days of spring in a week that'd be fine they don't have to be in a row as long as there isn't a 20 degree drop in between
  2:56am
rw:

Last track sounded like VanDerGraaf and K.Crimson.

Thanks again Rich! The weather here is fine!
