Hello, David. Et Al.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm
Sem:

Good evening, David. It was likewise a gorgeous Spring day here: the hummingbirds arrived two days ago and the garden has aspargus for me today.

βrian, Stanley, hello once again.
  4:03pm
Al:

Hello βrian

Greetings βrian and Stanley and Sem and AI!

Hi David and fellow travelers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm
David D:

And Doctorjazz!
Avatar 4:07pm
βrian:

Mmm, asparagus!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm
Stanley:

Hi Sem. Hummingbirds are, perhaps, the most wonderful creatures I have been fortunate to see (India). Love asparagus, too. In fact I made asparagus soup today. Times are good with you, it appears.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm
Uncle Michael:

I made asparagus soup yesterday...and sighted the season's first hummingbird as well. The soup is for tonight. Greetings, all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm
David D:

Yes, definitely asparagus season here - and raccoon season. That is in fact one of the raccoons inhabiting the tree right outside the radio station here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm
David D:

Hey UM!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm
Stanley:

I had no idea you got hummingbirds, over there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm
Sem:

All good here, cool cat.

Hey, UM.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm
Uncle Michael:

Hi, David.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm
Stanley:

What's happening? You got racoons in Germany?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm
Uncle Michael:

I had no idea you got them in te UK! I know Europe hasn't got them. In fact, I thought Croatia was lousy with them, but it turned out to be a kind of moth!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm
Uncle Michael:

Our raccoons aren't arboreal. They dig dens. We feed them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm
Stanley:

Got what Uncle?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm
David D:

Stanley: Yes, they are originally from North America, landed here decades ago and have recently begun showing up in places like this,
Avatar 4:13pm
βrian:

I recall seeing a video of a raccoon who was given some cotton candy. Naturally, he wanted to wash it before eating, but when he dipped it in the water: *poof*
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm
Uncle Michael:

Hummingbirds.

Hola!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm
David D:

Hola Gary!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm
Stanley:

Uncle: no hummingbirds here. I just saw them on my travels. We've got asparagus BUT I WANT RACOONS.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm
Uncle Michael:

I just came in from getting the last of the winter debris on the burn pile. I hope to burn this weekend before birds nest in the pile. It was only four pickup truck beds worth this year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm
David D:

Stanley, I'm surprised they haven't found the chunnel yet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm
Uncle Michael:

We have a resident mama raccoon who usually blesses us with a litter of 3-5 little ones each year...very cute.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm
Parq:

Take away their wings, and the birds would have to walk to get around. Or maybe hitchhike.
Avatar 4:17pm
βrian:

I once woke up to find my cat chasing a raccoon across my bed. They'd found their way in via the chimney, and boy did they bring a payload of fleas!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm
Parq:

< whispers "chirp chirp" >
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm
Uncle Michael:

We had a squirrel in the house once and never figured out how it got it. It's payload was urine. It deployed when terrified...and boy, was it ever.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm
Sem:

Last Fall, I found a raccoon somnolent on the deck, bloated with all the grapes it'd eaten from my vines. Big bastard didn't even try to get up. Just moaned once or twice, rolled over, and went back into a stupor.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm
Stanley:

Parq: they couldn't hitch hike as they have no thumbs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm
Sem:

no thumbs, think of it. Sad.
Avatar 4:20pm
βrian:

A bit fermented, those grapes?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm
Stanley:

Hitch hiking is a dead art now, what with cheap travel and paranoia
  4:22pm
Gary via app:

Love this cover!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm

My wife is out stumping for her cousin in the Democratic primary for the House, District 11 (vote Mitchell Cobert!!!!!), so I'm having pizza for dinner...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm
Sem:

Don't think so, βrian, but really sweet, so likely a diabetic coma, or something.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm
Parq:

Stanley, right? I have fond memories of hitching, but if my kid ever did it, I'd have a retroactive heart attack.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm
Stanley:

Parq, like you, back in the day, it was the only way to travel. Now, you hardly see a soul 'on the road'.
Avatar 4:28pm
northguineahills:

Had a deadline to get an experiment ready to put in the field tomorrow, so just now got home for lunch. 4:30, and my first meal of the day (leftover Korean seafood soup).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm
Parq:

Speaking of my kid, would you guys believe raccoons on a city fire escape? It's true. The kid lives near the south tip of Highbridge Park, and the critters make their way to the back of the building.
Avatar 4:29pm
northguineahills:

I've never hitched, but I've picked up a few, usually college kids.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm
David D:

Bon appetit, NGH!
Avatar 4:30pm
βrian:

I hitched a bit, in the US and France.

Once we got picked up by some luxury car. When I stepped out at the end, I was briefly puzzled to see a huge dark splotch on the fancy upholstery. A few moments after the car pulled away, I discovered the ruptured ink pen in my back pocket. Oy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm
David D:

Raccoons seem to have different cultures of shyness in different places. Here they're all in the trees. And in Vancouver they'll walk right up to you in the park.
Avatar 4:32pm
northguineahills:

I'm now officially a lab tech (when told what to do). I've been asking to do lab work for the last month, and I finally got the chance (IT, spatial database management, and GIS is all fine and good, but I want to do everything our company does, even if I don't have an MS in biogeochemistry (just a MA in geography).
Avatar 4:34pm
βrian:

Years ago, Michigan shut down their Geography department, since it was thought obsolete. That was a really short-sighted decision.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm
Stanley:

I vowed never to hitch hike again after I read 'Under the Skin' by Michel Faber
en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar 4:36pm
northguineahills:

I was just listening to the Anthology of Chinese Traditional and Folk Music Vol 5 in my car. Don't know much about it, as the title is the only thing in English. (found it in a thrift store a few years back).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm
Parq:

Stanley, you would think people would have been too scared to pick up hitchhikers after that hitchhiking scene from "In Cold Blood".
Avatar 4:38pm
northguineahills:

@βrian: Yeah, UF almost did as well (a lot of schools did), then in the late 80s early 90s GIS rescued the Geography Departments around the world).
  4:40pm
melinda:

Diary of a Teenage Hitchhiker on TV in the 70s scared me away from hitchhiking.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm
Sem:

Thanks for the link, Stanley. A bit off-putting, as you say, in the realm of hitching.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm
Stanley:

Natacha. I wondered what happened to her. Love this song, by the way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm
David D:

One of the dangers of hitchhiking here is that your driver might think of the Autobahn as a raceway.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42pm
David D:

Stanley: Natacha is still performng and recording, I believe. I think she's based in London.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42pm

David did you know there's a German version of your Muppets theme? It came up on Mayuko's comments board

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm
Uncle Michael:

David, have you seen the Harmonists film?
Avatar 5:02pm
northguineahills:

I showed my wife Babylon Berlin (I already watched it). She binged it when she was sick). I love interwar Germany.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:04pm

Seems like it was an insane place/time!
Avatar 5:06pm

Well, love is maybe not the right word, but the art world and social changes were interesting.
Avatar 5:09pm
northguineahills:

I caught up w/ Occupied, It's a good series.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:14pm
Uncle Michael:

Das Dead!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15pm
David D:

Yes, that is a fascinating period in history. And I didn't see the Harmonists film but I did ride the wave of their rediscovery here in Germany in the 90s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20pm
David D:

If rediscovery can have a wave, that is.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:07pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:10pm

I like this track too but it sounds quite different from the Pure Prairie League version
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:11pm
David D:

Melinda, once again I am intrigued...
  6:14pm
melinda:

Haha, it's totally different but I love it too, I guess you'd call it country rock
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:23pm
David D:

*That is John Gilmore on saxophone and percussion vocals.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:24pm
David D:

Melinda: I will have to look for that as well...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:40pm
melinda:

I meant to say it is a totally different song, yet with the same atypical spelling "Amie" which is why it seemed funny to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:42pm
David D:

Okay, it still might be good though, of course!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:46pm
