Hi David and all, sounded like Slam Stewart on that bass.

You are correct, doctorjazz, and you surely know this one too!

The only sad thing about Statman discovering and moving to Klezmer music is that he played much less mandolin... He's such a monster on it (not that he's a slouch on clarinet)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm
David D:

Greetings, Stanley - yes the World Cup hosts are doing well so far this year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm
David D:

Okay, here's some clarinet to make up for it...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm
Parq:

Attending an event hosted by Antique Phonograph DJ MAC recently, I was struck by a clarinet solo in a Dixieland recording. Somewhere after World War II and the Glenn Miller sound, clarinets fell out of favor in jazz. There just weren't a whole lot of bebop clarinetists, for instance.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm
David D:

Good point, Parq. I always wonder how instruments fall in and out of favor.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm
doctorjazz:

Buddy Collette was a bebop clarinet player, but he was the exception that proved the rule. It did come back in the post bop Era, 90s or so in jazz.

Environmental science. Did some soil core samples from the everglades for a study. For once I'm not drowning in to much work, so w/ the down time, I volunteered to get the mud etc out of the vessels. It start to thunderstorm, and didn't bother me in the least, helped me clean up faster.

This music should fit up in olde Edinburgh "Twill by Twilight". Always good to hear some classical.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm

I love the music of Toru Takemitsu. You don't hear him played much.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm

It does sound rather twilit.

Anthony Braxton, my Bodhisattva! I said something to that effect when I met Tyondai Braxton, he was cool about it. I used to run into Tyondai at the bagel shops and local bars, he was fun to chat w/.
Avatar 7:02pm
northguineahills:

yeah, in NYC I was making a ton more money, but if you're freelancing/subcontracting for a few weeks or a month, it's all rather pointless, and you're constantly stressed looking for work while working.

And I'm back! Missed the jazz set. Love Benny Carter... Saw him many, many times in NYC. He once came over to me, I was buying a "fake book" someone was selling outright the club (I thought I could learn to play jazz at one point ) and started the nicest conversation about music and studying music. He was a real sweetheart

Yes, I was surprised to see it so much there in March, myself. How are the local brews?
Avatar 8:39pm
northguineahills:

There are four microbreweries in this town alone, all pretty damn good. My local footy pub has forty taps, I try everyone. My new fave is a Michigan based brewery that did an habanero-cucumber ale (and I usually don't like fruity beers).
