Which Tears for Fears will we hear...?
Avatar 12:15pm
DDDJJJ666:

Interesting, except that Duran Duran is not, technically, a first name, as Duran Duran misheard Barbarella, not realizing that his name is actually Durand Durand.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm
coelacanth∅:

i always thought this must be influenced by Alan Vega
Avatar 12:17pm
DDDJJJ666:

Dean, I will be playing Tears For Fears covering Blood, sweat And Tears, of course.
  12:19pm
Dean:

Perhaps, but Duran is, at least potentially, a first name: https://www.babycenter.com/baby-names-duran-1463833.htm

Another restriction was that the name couldn't be eponymous, i.e., one of the band member's, e.g., Huey Lewis & the News.

Heh, Blood, Sweat & Tears for Fears

I once happened to be at a now defunct venue in Portland venue called EJ's, eating lunch, where I got to see Dale Bozzio admonish her kids in a thick NY accent at the table next to me. Some later iteration of Missing Persons was playing there that evening. I feel like I REALLY got to see them live in that moment.

"Ancient Mariners are so overrated." AARP begs to differ.

Avatar 12:53pm

Speaking of heroin, it's funny to think of jazz musicians struggling with addiction and inequality, only to have the saxophone finally validated in popular culture in the new wave era by cheesy white musicians.

Teenagers making tapes is better than the internet because you can always just not play the tapes.
  1:32pm
Dean:

I've mentioned this before on various WFMU comment boards, but Wall of Voodoo -- either Marc or Stan -- called me to ask my band at the time to open for them at a show in Los Angeles. This was pre-"Mexican Radio." Other members of my band recall that they wanted us to play several shows on the West Coast with them. I have no such recollection. Anyway, we decided instead to break up.
