Hey Joe! Quick question: Is registering to “The Boomtown Rats” discography in release order a worthwhile effort?

this is the *good* song?! from the Megan McDonough...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26am
Joe McG:

@Jake: Hmm. Maybe for the first couple of albums.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26am
Joe McG:

@Lewis: I have a weakness for songs about people dying from drugs, I guess.
  11:27am
JakeGould:

@JoeMcG: So the first 3 it is. That is my general rule: Even for great bands the first 3 albums are really the bulk of what anyone should care about.
Avatar 11:27am
northguineahills:

@Joe: So does SM Ken.
Avatar 11:28am

@Jake: Difficulty, the Beatles, Miles Davis, John and Alice Coltrane..., but yeah, they are the exceptions....

I enjoy only one track on "Metal Machine Music."

@coel - the lead singer never really sings as far as i could tell. i think there's a literary quality that appeals to people about the lyrics. they were a very tight straight-up hard-charging rock and roll band please never bring them up again :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30am
Joe McG:

This album's OK, but like a lot of MJQ, it's sleepy time. I don't need more than 2 MJQ LPs. This one has to go.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30am

I like all the note, in any order.

Thanks for playing (not forgetting) Beat Rodeo. Love that band.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am
Joe McG:

@Mark: I don't love these lyrics (not sure who they're about), but mostly this LP doesn't do it for me. Love the first one, though.

cliff westhall and girls on grass last week, in a small bar, however were both fantastic
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35am
fred:

@ngh: The name "one note samba" always reminds me of Rhys Chatham's Guitar Trio, because it an E chord throughout. Of course the results are quite different
  11:35am
JakeGould:

This sounds like an old family member’s middling bluegrass attempts. Did I ever tell you someone in my family I am not really fond of once attempted to be a bluegrass artist?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am
Joe McG:

@Jake: This song is part of a side-long suite about a girl who falls in love with a drug dealer.

*mic drop* Goodnight folks!

The Oscar:

@Dean One night in college I had a paper due and my roommate was watching TV, so I just put MMM on my headphones and listened to it on repeat. By the fourth or fifth go-round (probably around dawn), I found myself skipping to the parts that I was convinced were my favorites.
  11:38am
Mark in Toronto:

I agree with you, the first album is a killer. Was lucky enough to see them when they played a small bar in Toronto in the 80's.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38am
Krys O.:

I used to play Fat Mattress, Noel's other band.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39am
Joe McG:

@Krys O: I like Fat Mattress!
  11:40am
Dean:

@The Oscar: I'd love to read that paper.

Agreed re: Fat Mattress. Redding was in another band, wasn't he? Some hotshot?
  11:42am
David in London:

I always liked Noel Redding’s advice to young, aspirant musicians - buy a gun and get a good accountant. Sad but true.

So, "Two and Through"?
  11:46am
JakeGould:

I like 1980s synths. But… This is like borderline cult music.
  11:46am

And what's so bad about borderline cults?
  11:47am

Wow
