I saw Alpha Blondy at Nyon Festival in 1986. he was a massive star back then. (On the same line up as James Brown no less). Don't hear much about him nowadays.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm
David D:

Nyon! I lived right near there for a year, missed Alpha Blondy by about two decades, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm

Nice one, David. you know Romandy. I hung out in Geneva with a bunch of freaks for that summer.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49pm
kuba:

is this one of these soda/pop situations or capitalism & branding related?
Avatar 5:49pm
Carmichael:

Or hoagies. Or Po Boys.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm
David D:

Could be both - I'm sure studies have been carried out. Hoagies is more of a Philadelphia thing, I believe.
Avatar 5:52pm
northguineahills:

submarine sandwiches, or a torpedo? I think originally, it was regional etymology that determined what they were called, then certain companies ran w/ those terms.....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:54pm
David D:

Hercules Heros could have made it big...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:54pm
kuba:

just went down the google image search & linguistic cartography rabbit hole...
Avatar 5:55pm

There's something from South Africa called The Gatsby, similar to a torpedo roll. Man, now I'm hungry.

We don't gat a lot of organ music on WFMU!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:47pm

There's a really nice organ here in Kingston's Old Dutch Church. Really some new and old pieces should be played on it -- a lot!

Hello Chresti!

Avatar 6:54pm
northguineahills:

I convinced my parents to convince the musical director of their church to allow me access to their pipe organ to sample. That was fun!
Avatar 6:57pm
northguineahills:

Po Boys and Cubans are different from subs in my experience. Never heard of a wedge.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:58pm
kuba:

ngh - can we hear your parents' church's director's organ's samples somewhere?
Avatar 6:59pm
northguineahills:

Never heard of a zep, either.

kuba: I'm still trying to think what to do w/ the samples. I mostly did glassian minimalism, but since, I was out of practice, only a few minutes here and there came out great. (I can probably salvage 12 mins).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:01pm
David D:

Thanks everyone! (Looking forward to hearing those samples, NGH)
