Wasn’t “Sisters Are Doin’ It for Themselves” supposed to be a duet with Tina Turner, but she was busy so the Eurythmics went ahead and git Aretha Franklin instead.

Mr. Fine Wine:

Oh! Yeah, pretty thrilled with that newspaper article!
  8:43pm
JakeGould:

Just reading this great interview with John Landis about “The Blues Brothers” and Aretha Franklin: “What’s important to remember about that movie is, it was John and Danny’s intention to exploit their own celebrity of the moment, and focus a spotlight on these great American artists because rhythm and blues was in eclipse. To give you an idea, MCA Records, Universal Records, refused the soundtrack album.” deadline.com...
Avatar 🍷 Swag For Life Member 8:44pm
chresti:

I was an extra in that movie
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:44pm
Mr. Fine Wine:

Wow. I mean, it was clear to me as a viewer that they were showcasing favorite artists, which was amazing.
  8:45pm
JakeGould:

The frat boys have kinda ruined that film, but if you watch it as a movie, it’s good. Also this line explains more, “Plus, the bizarre and real fact that John and Danny and The Blues Brothers…it was a surprise to everybody but me, but when they opened for Steve Martin and recorded A Briefcase Full of Blues, that was the largest-selling rhythm and blues album of all time!”
  8:46pm
JakeGould:

Also this, “She was lovely with me. The only thing that made me uncomfortable with Aretha was, for some mysterious reason – I think because I was the director — she insisted on calling me Mr. Landis.”
Avatar 🍷 Swag For Life Member 8:48pm
chresti:

I only worked one day, some person was annoying me to the point of not returning the next day
  8:48pm
JakeGould:

Won’t quote anymore, but will just say that Ahmet Ertegun of Atlantic Records sounds a bit like a putz in the interview.
  8:49pm
JakeGould:

@chresti: Cool. What did you do?
