Or: for those listening to the archive, backward to the show.

Welcome to the Doctors Nerve! And Henry wherever you are in time and space!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:01pm
steveo:

howdy! more bossa!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:01pm
david w:

Yeah, weird how that happens! Hey steveo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:02pm
doctorjazz:

Hi, sounds great!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm
fred:

Good afternoon David, Ruth, and listeners
@Ruth: that elevator in the Pompidou Center will be closed for a year at least
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm
Webhamster Henry:

I'm here, in the Ridgewood Dimension!
Avatar 3:06pm
TDK60:

Just got in from the heat.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:07pm
listener james from westwood:

How do, Ridgewoodians! Would've come in for last week's show at 3, so I deferred, and that 5-hour wonder was indeed best listened to in one glorious sitting.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:08pm
david w:

doctor of another flavor! Henry is in real life, TDK joins the sweltering masses, and James! You are too kind...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm
fred:

This Tohban Djan set starts wonderfully. The vocals sometimes remind me of Okinawan music, which I love
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:10pm
david w:

@fred... Ruth remembers that escalator as a headphone epiphany as she developed into the noise band hostess for downtown NYC. Long story, someday hope she writes the book.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:13pm
david w:

Yes, Fred. I learned that about you during Mayuko's show this week. I still have to catch up on that stuff.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:16pm
listener james from westwood:

I always hate to dive into FMU programs after they've started. I feel like I've skipped part of the narrative. Best taken in full.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:18pm
david w:

When I come late to a show I always find myself researching the links and references that piled up in the comments and missing out on the live action!
Avatar 3:23pm
northguineahills:

Tohban Djan, new to me, but I know all of the players!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:28pm
david w:

The band barely lasted a year, I believe because the lovely USA was unkind on the alien Shioi who had no patience for the bull.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm
fred:

@David: To spare you another shock, I'm a huge fan of Mongolian long song (urtiin duu). Byambajargal Gombodorj is my favorite singer. When she performed in Paris a couple years ago, I delayed heart surgery to see her, walked into the hospital the next day
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:32pm
david w:

More sweets for me, Fred! And once again I am reminded of the book you are going to write, perhaps as a companion to Ruth's!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm
fred:

Heh, I'll get writing when she does, then
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm
Webhamster Henry:

I put in for New Music America, but I don't think they fell for my categorization of "autoharp" as "World Music".
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:46pm
david w:

NMA fell short partly because the promise of inclusion was only partly delivered and bitterness ensued. The loudest voices...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm
Webhamster Henry:

They failed because of the lack of autoharp acts #itsallaboutme .
Avatar 4:03pm
northguineahills:

I know Nick's work, but the rest of the ensemble are new to me!

@Henry: I played a duet down here w/ my wife w/ me w/ samples and found percussion, and her w/ autoharp and a battery of petals. (oddly, the first time we played together).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm
fred:

@ngh: petals or pedals? If the former, I'd really love to see that
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:11pm
david w:

Everybody in this band has made a real contribution to the downtown scene but in diverse ways. Didkovsky ic a connector.

And the autoharp is making a comeback! Ever hear of Dendera Bloodbath?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm
Webhamster Henry:

Nope! But I play Autoharp with fellow autoharpist Brian Dewan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm
Webhamster Henry:

Didkovsky, though, doesn't use autoharps.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm
fred:

@Henry: sorry for the awkward introduction to Juanjo, but awkward is the way I roll
Avatar 4:15pm
northguineahills:

@fred: pedals, but I have played petals and another time a house plant.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:15pm
david w:

I bet he owns one!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:16pm
david w:

Didkovsky that is, but he probably has house plants too.
Avatar 4:17pm
northguineahills:

(also have played w/ dried chilies my band mate got from Burkina Faso).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm
fred:

@ngh: great stuff, but don't go try and play a gator, I don't want to see you headlining the wrong kind of Florida story
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:26pm
david w:

I bet dried chiles make a nice crinkling sound, but don't touch your eyes (or pee).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm
fred:

A former coworker was in the Red Army at the time of the Chernobyl accident. His train from Kazakhstan to Armenia just got through a hub when the alert came, so he didn't get sent there
Avatar 4:34pm
northguineahills:

@fred: Are you kidding, I'm now Florida Man, doing whatever Florida man can ("hold my beer and watch this!")
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:35pm
david w:

I believe the Estonians in this band have dispersed across Europe to avoid another toxic threat.
Avatar 4:35pm
northguineahills:

I'm nearly immune to chilies and my skin, If I rub my eyes w/ the hottest chilies, I just get a mild annoying burning sensation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44pm
fred:

"rub my eyes with chillies" I'm afraid he's gone full Florida on us, folks, he may be too far gone by now
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm
fred:

Rare to hear a good turntablist set these days. Joke Lanz can pull it off
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:51pm
david w:

Agreed. I believe Christian still performs with his old turntables now and then. Still fresh, almost dependably brilliant.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm
Webhamster Henry:

Sounds like Marclay had his hands on some Carl Stalling material!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm
fred:

Kid Koala is still good, though not as good as when he blew my mind playing Moon River 10 years ago
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:57pm
listener james from westwood:

Many thanks, David and Ruth!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:58pm

You are all great, thinks to you!

Mary Wing:

Is it done?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:58pm

Think thank thunk.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:59pm

Get ready Mary!
Avatar 5:00pm
northguineahills:

Ack, missed Marclay b/c of work!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:00pm

Thanks David
(and Ruth, don't get too quick to start writing that book now that I've kinda committed to match)
