There might be a horse there, but the pic looks like my mind.

Playing with the horse money, eh?

I use to be a pari-mutual clerk at Santa Anita and Hollywood Park

Off to home, hear ya there!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:16pm
Sam Segal:

NGH, Chresti, and Fleep! Nice to have ya. Pardon the immediate flubbing. I'll straighten out. You'll see.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18pm
doctorjazz:

Anybody seen MY horse?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21pm
Sam Segal:

Funny you ask, Doctor Jazz. I think I just saw your horse wander right up to the Give the Drummer Radio Stream to take a drink of radio!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31pm
Doug in JC:

This Proc Fiskal song sounds like early MoM. I love it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33pm
Franco Twinkie:

Chresti, there is a couple of grilled chicken tacos waiting for you on the kitchen table.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34pm
Sam Segal:

Pardon me, Doug in JC, but what does "MoM" stand for?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34pm
Doug in JC:

Sorry Sam, Mouse on Mars
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36pm
doctorjazz:

I thought it was Milk of Magnesia...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37pm
Sam Segal:

Ohhhh...Mouse on Mars! Now I got ya!
Avatar 9:40pm
northguineahills:

Sam is slipping the Mark, missing MoM (I'm a huge fan). (add another a and it's MOMA).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43pm
Franco Twinkie:

Sam, where is the picture? It looks like someplace around here.
Avatar 9:49pm
northguineahills:

(dig everything from Jan St Werner, like Microstoria).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50pm
Doug in JC:

Franco: it's one of those nice Documerica transparencies. Oxnard, CA
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51pm
chresti:

OK thanks Franco!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52pm
Doug in JC:

I liked the Lithops project a lot, and the JSW / FX Randomiz LP was fantastic
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53pm
Franco Twinkie:

I saw PIL shortly at the Olympic Auditorium, down town Los Angeles shortly after Metal Box was released. They reigned over a sea of pandemonium from the center of a boxing ring. It was awe inspiring.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58pm
Sam Segal:

Right you are, Doug in JC! For future reference: 95% of my playlist images are from the Documerica series.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58pm
Sam Segal:

Jesus, Franco...what an image (re: PiL)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01pm
Franco Twinkie:

It was a perfect place for PIL, Sam. In addition to boxing, they also had wrestling and roller derby at the Olympic.
Avatar 10:03pm
northguineahills:

David Sylvian is like Scott Walker for me. I honestly didn't get into him until the last few albums when they both went different directions.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05pm
Sam Segal:

You a fan of "Blemish," NGH?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07pm
Doug in JC:

Documerica is a great resource. The National Archives putting everything on Flickr is one of those rare instances of the internet being great
Avatar 10:10pm
northguineahills:

@Sam: I don't own anything by David Sylvian, but I backtracked to that recently and like it. The last two Scott Walker albums are amazing.
Avatar 10:11pm

Scelsi did cryptographs before Prince....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12pm

This sound like a baby with dice in it's mouth.
Avatar 10:13pm

Sounds like someone enthusiastically eating soba!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm

I like this Cucina Povera track
Avatar 10:22pm

A fave Pentangle of mine!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm

Thanks, Chresti!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25pm

Found out about this tune in an Invisible Jukebox with Meg Baird and Mary Lattimore in this month's Wire Magazine
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27pm
chresti:

OK got to load myself in the car and roll on home to Franco and tacos.
Thanks Sam!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29pm
Sam Segal:

Cheers, Chresti! Enjoy the tacos!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44pm
Sam Segal:

Larry Coryell ripping it up on this tune, FYI.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45pm
coelacanth∅:

hello
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46pm
Sam Segal:

Coel! Good tidings to you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50pm
doctorjazz:

It started as Michael Mantler and Carla Bley's band, Mantler was in charge at this point
There are many European jazz musicians that are unknown in the US, even now (some think the most interesting jazz is coming from Europe). Francisco Cafiso is a great Italian sax player/composer I recently heard about. (his 3 cd set called 3, is really good).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm
Sam Segal:

Oh yeah, definitely didn't mean to diss any of the Europeans on the newer recording. I feel like I pay relatively close attention to the contemporary scene in Europe but it is quite vast obviously. Will definitely have to check out the Francisco Cafiso set. Thanks, Doctor Jazz!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56pm
doctorjazz:

(the names were all unfamiliar to me as well, Sam, didn't mean to come off holier than thou...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00pm
Sam Segal:

Oh, certainly not, Doctor Jazz. Not in the least!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06pm
doctorjazz:

Thomas Conrad is a jazz reviewer who often exposes European jazz artists on these shores. He writes in JazzTimes, New York City Jazz Record, Stereophile and All About Jazz, and I often pick up on artists from him I wouldn't know about otherwise.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10pm
doctorjazz:

Love Don Byron; one of these guys who can and does play in almost any idiom.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12pm
Sam Segal:

Haven't listened to it in awhile, but I love Byron's Nu Blaxploitation record.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22pm
doctorjazz:

And this Friends and Neighbors sent me to Discogs, really cool!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25pm
Sam Segal:

Speaking of Europeans! Honestly don't know that much about this group, but I'll take a chance on anything Clean Feed puts out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27pm
Franco Twinkie:

I was sleeping while the Keith Jarrett was on real loud, and with typical sleep nonsense logic trying to decipher patterns on a big rubbery keyboard.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30pm
Sam Segal:

I am curious where your dreams would have gone next had you continued sleeping into this current set, Franco.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36pm
doctorjazz:

OK, back to work tomorrow after vacation, sure I'll have tons to do, gotta go, thanks, Sam, enjoyed it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37pm
Franco Twinkie:

I woke up when Chresti came in the back door. She immediately started telling me about something she just heard on the news. Part of some guys jail was sentence was to watch Bambi repeatedly for decapitating dear, and running off with their heads.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44pm
Sam Segal:

Thanks for stopping by, Doctor Jazz!
Avatar 11:48pm
northguineahills:

Got back for the end!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49pm
Sam Segal:

Welcome back, NGH!
Avatar 11:50pm

I had a weird-ass dream Sunmorn that I worked at a fish farm in Caspian Sean in Azerbaijan. I have no idea where that came from!
  11:50pm
Dean:

Looking upstream to Nu Blaxploitation. Agreed! One of his most fun records. Features Biz Markie on a killer live rap.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51pm
Sam Segal:

Dean! I forgot about that Biz Markie appearance. Yes! Hello!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59pm
coelacanth∅:

Thanks Sam take care
Avatar 12:01am

Iku Sakan reminded me of Yoshi Wada!
  12:02am

Dang, gotta miss Tony tomorrow, 'cuz I'm flying out of town.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm

I'm enjoying this archive. Thanks Sam.
