This week:

Kimzilla and Emily decide that it’s time to go hunting for that big story. Furries! This episode is too good to fit in one hour, so it’s going to be broken up into two parts. This is part 2.   7:03pm
JakeGould:

Is that a pic of Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi.
  7:06pm
Sully, A British Fox:

@ultradamno Depends how comitted the mice are to the rp, I think.

What Emily said is the same about food prep people who take your money after preparing your food.

It's a funny thing only if it's done well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:09pm
dale:

you HAVE to watch the original series now - it's on netlfix. it. is. GREAT.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:09pm

@Linda I found this more interesting than the Harry Potter show, if that helps.

Linda Lee:

Listener Robert:

Tommy, does WMFU come in in Neversink? In stereo?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:11pm

Night at the opera has the funniest scene ever filmed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:12pm

was it a sexy gorilla outfit from party city?
Avatar 7:12pm
Linda Lee:

so this is animal drag?
Avatar 7:12pm
Linda Lee:

some of us are busy enough doing drag as humans!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:12pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

The WFMU Marketing Division should sell a line of furry character pajamas.

i went to school at fredonia. supposedly they got booed off the stage of the opera house there and they used that later but no proof.
Avatar 7:13pm
RomanDogBird:

i liked it when bob uecker called them furriers
  7:14pm
Sully, A British Fox:

Well for what it's worth, you've changed my mind on media coverage, Even if I'm still wary of it.
Avatar 7:14pm
Linda Lee:

i see by the photo you're allowed to make up animals!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:14pm

furry fandom scientists should work on cancer instead. resources better used.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:16pm
melinda:

I heard some people on Youtube making references to Furries as sex fetishists and I felt sort of defensive on behalf of Furries, after listening to last week's show.
  7:16pm
Sully, A British Fox:

@Linda We call them hybrids. And yes, It's totally allowed.
Avatar 7:16pm

don't we generally understand that it's pretend no matter what we do?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:17pm
melinda:

Not that there's anything wrong with a sex fetish.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:17pm
dale:

oh - this is the wally cox dude.
Avatar 7:17pm
duckiekiller:

@ Linda Lee so true
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:19pm
ultradamno:

I think a lot of people stop pretending (and playing) out of insecurity regarding their own maturity.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:20pm
Tommy in Neversink:

Melinda....that's where people always go with these kind of things. They don't understand something more nuanced could be going on
  7:20pm
Emily:

Tech gremlins, guys!!!
Avatar 7:20pm
Linda Lee:

so, they then begin pretending more conventionally.
  7:21pm
Emily:

Sorry...oof
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22pm
Tommy in Neversink:

People seek power , I don't mean in a bad way. We want power over our reality. Creating a fantasy character or world is a way of achieving that
Avatar 7:23pm
duckiekiller:

its hard for adults to look silly in our culture
Avatar 7:24pm
Linda Lee:

i personally think an awful lot of them look damn silly every day of the week!
  7:25pm
Listener Robert:

I'm interested in the distinction between play AS a pretend character, and play WITH a pretend character, such as a doll or dummy. Late in life I revived Wolfie, my wolf doll, in play with friends. It started with my participation in the boxed RPG Toon from Steve Jackson Games. My character, illustrated by the doll (which had been in retirement since my childhood), was a hit so he kept putting in appearances, making phone calls, faxes, and e-mails, etc. He gossips about me.
Avatar 7:27pm
Linda Lee:

Robert, i was just talking with our friend Buddha In Suburbia about her bear, Nounours. he has an active social life; he's lived in Paris and New York: he has his own warddrobe, a facebook page..
  7:28pm
Listener Robert:

There was the interview on "This American Life" with Duckie.
Avatar 7:31pm
duckiekiller:

@ Linda Lee, I agree! unfortunately I don't think you and I are using the same ruler most people use.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:32pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

I wonder if people bring their furry pets to conventions ... with furry costumes on the pets.
Avatar 7:32pm
Linda Lee:

i can't seem to hear what's being said without filtering it through a trans sensibility. some of us embody our truth in public & because we're seen to pretend, we're murdered for it.
  7:33pm
sim:

Isn't creating and inhabiting a fantastical persona an escape from reality?
Avatar 7:33pm

Acrilic fibers tend to melt. The backing material's probably flamable though. And the cuts to vision and mobility won't help in a burning studio.

Avatar 7:35pm
Richard S:

Anyone else remember the Bob's Burgers episode "The Equestranauts"?
Avatar 7:36pm
Linda Lee:

what is this 'broken people' she keeps referring to?
Avatar 7:37pm
Kamp Climax:

Why is "broken people" even a precept?
  7:37pm
Sully, A British Fox:

@melinda There is. Therians more so, but some Otherkin too.
Avatar 7:39pm
Linda Lee:

oh dear. fantasy is a book, reality is not-a-book? how about Americans' conviction that we live under a democratic system? what is that?
Avatar 7:40pm
Linda Lee:

@Kamp Climax ~ no kidding!
Avatar 7:41pm
