Favoriting Cratedigger's Lung with Rich In Washington: Playlist from March 22, 2019 Favoriting

A three-hour exploration of excavations from the farthest reaches of humanity's hellish collective brain, through records, tapes, CDs, mostly scoured from country bumpkin thrift stores, creepy charity shops, backwoods junk stores, and even the internet - all mixed live. We don't judge, we just play 'em. Hosted by Rich in Washington.

Howdy folks! Make yourselves at home while I get the puppet show lined up.
Avatar 6:57pm
Don-O:

Sorry if I put the listeners to sleep, Rich. I hope you can wake 'em up!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:58pm
Rich in Washington:

WAKE UP!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:59pm
Rich in Washington:

This show might put them back to sleep. Or in a coma!
Avatar 6:59pm
βrian:

A coma sounds ok to me right about now.
Avatar 7:01pm
Don-O:

Dennis Duck?! Bastard son of Disco Duck?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:01pm
Rich in Washington:

Hi βrian! Thanks for tuning in! Here's your pillow!
Avatar 7:01pm
Don-O:

I wonder if this is what you hear when you're in a coma.
Avatar 7:03pm
βrian:

But ... it's way too big to swallow. Can I have one of the orange pills?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:03pm
Rich in Washington:

I do. You don't?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:04pm
Rich in Washington:

The orange pills are one of those that don't do anything at all. Ask Alice.
Avatar 7:06pm
Mr Fab:

Dennis Duck: turntablism pioneer (this came out in the '70s!), and drummer for the Dream Syndicate.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:07pm
Rich in Washington:

This is the ought-six reissue with tons of extra material. Sure do love it. It's almost always in my show crate.
Avatar 7:07pm
Mr Fab:

released under the auspices of the legendary, and still active, LA Free Music Society. i check out their live events when I can.
Avatar 7:08pm
Don-O:

SOUND GALLERYYYYYY!!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:10pm
Rich in Washington:

I almost reflexively gave the phone number to the air room. That would be funny. SOme poor volunteer for Democracy Now getting calls from Sheena weirdos.
Avatar 7:10pm
βrian:

I'm play-listing to port and taking on ennui.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:10pm
Rich in Washington:

That Paris Studio Group still makes my heart leap, being the theme tune to Vision On.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:11pm
Otis Fodder:

Great McLuhan find in the thrift!
Avatar 7:12pm
Mr Fab:

"SOme poor volunteer for Democracy Now getting calls from Sheena weirdos" - We should call 'em anyway. idea for a future show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:12pm
Rich in Washington:

I know! I almost yelled. Also a rare moment where I had my wife with me AND she knew what the record was.
Avatar 7:13pm
Don-O:

I see a 'prank phone call' show in the future!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:13pm
Rich in Washington:

I have a recording of someone calling a morning talk radio show and is complaining about late night music programmers of being followers of Aleister Crowley. and I think it's the same lady that used to call my show and complain about the stuff I was playing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:13pm
Otis Fodder:

The luck of the thrifts. Love when that happens. Okay, back to Pasta and listening in the kitchen, almost a tradition now every Friday. :)
Avatar 7:14pm
Mr Fab:

to paraphrase Woody Allen: "Rich, I am Marshall McLuhan. You know NOTHING about my theories."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:14pm
Rich in Washington:

i had someone threaten to burn the station down when I played that Free Snot of Jesus record, all the prank calls to religious stations, etc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:15pm
Rich in Washington:

For some reason, I am finding better records at Goodwill stores lately. Not sure why. Maybe they're not filtering stuff for online selling?
Avatar 7:16pm
Mr Fab:

Don-O: play prank call records, or we make our own prank calls? I'm up for either one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:16pm
Rich in Washington:

The production style of this record really really reminds me of Don Joyce's style. I wonder if this record had an influence on him and Negativland. It's pretty amazing.
Avatar 7:18pm
Don-O:

Jersey Boys are making their first album in 20 years. So, I guess they beat us to it as for as any new stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:18pm
Rich in Washington:

None of that repetition is me. It's how they did it. Razor blades. This record is really ahead of its time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:19pm
Rich in Washington:

No way! I thought they had some kind of falling out.
Avatar 7:21pm
βrian:

If you want to pick up college credits, you'll need a really good opening line.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22pm
Rich in Washington:

'an amazing symphony of prosperity..'
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:24pm
Rich in Washington:

This album is criminally unappreciated. It was cited as being an influence on Negativland.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:25pm
Rich in Washington:

Jesus Christ, It's sugar!
Avatar 7:26pm
βrian:

Semantic sugar!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27pm

i always think that laughing is Pee Wee Herman.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:31pm
Rich in Washington:

If you ain't you, you ain't anybody.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:36pm
Otis Fodder:

I had to come back in from the kitchen and just say, how much I love this Hal Blaine album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:38pm
Otis Fodder:

It's wild, but still a really smooth easy listen I find. For those of us with ears that are tuned to 'sheena jungle room' frequencies I guess.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:39pm
Rich in Washington:

It's maybe my favorite Hal Blaine record. It's got nutty Library music type vibes to it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:39pm
Rich in Washington:

How's the pasta project going?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:40pm
Otis Fodder:

Slowly and totally amateur. Eating now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:42pm
Rich in Washington:

when I heard that Wrecking Crew members played on Zappa's Freak Out, I sort of assumed Blaine played on it because of the whacked out percussion on side four, but it wasn't him. Not a single note.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:42pm
Rich in Washington:

Amateur eating. Mmmm!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:46pm
Otis Fodder:

Never knew that there was a Cru-FreakOut connection. Cool.

My cooking is just above amateur stage. Never had a passion for it until last year when I dug in. Now having fun failing and experimenting. Catch me in a year or two when I start to cook for dinner parties.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:47pm
Otis Fodder:

This is music for spices.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:47pm
Rich in Washington:

My wife and I love just improvising dishes with what we have around.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:48pm
Otis Fodder:

That's what I'm doing now. Last night leftover samosas with olives, peppers, onions, cheese, spices, sea salt... and my go to: Sriracha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:49pm
Otis Fodder:

This Ralph album is on my wantlist.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:49pm
Rich in Washington:

This is about food.
Avatar 7:49pm
Mr Fab:

I included "Flower Society" on an exotica comp I did for my old blog. All those birdie fx gave it a tiki bar kinda vibe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:51pm
Rich in Washington:

It is really exotica-y.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:53pm
Rich in Washington:

Finally got my reverb to work on my mic.
Avatar 7:54pm
Mr Fab:

Hal Blaine, Dick Dale, Andre Williams...the Jungle Room keeps adding more zombie members...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55pm
Rich in Washington:

I totally forgot to play any of the latter two. Stupid!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:56pm
Rich in Washington:

But I also knew my fellow Jungleites would do a much better job of paying tribute to them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:57pm
Otis Fodder:

Thanks Rich, have a great weekend!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:57pm
Rich in Washington:

Fabs, you participated in that Mashed in Plastic comp, no?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:57pm
Rich in Washington:

I need to get this audio book. It sounds bonkers.
Avatar 7:58pm
Mr Fab:

ha, yeah, "Eraserhead Serenade"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:58pm
Rich in Washington:

Thanks for listening, Otis! Bon appetit!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:58pm
Rich in Washington:

I thought so! That's a great track!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:59pm
Rich in Washington:

Twin Peaks' revival made me want to do an all Lynch show but I never did. Maybe I should though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:00pm

See you all next week!
