If your country is only about 200 years old do you get to have myths and legends?

Also, now that everyone has cameras, it’s odd that there’s less and less sightings.

Sorry to be a downer but people waste Their entire lives on this

Avatar 7:20pm

@Colin, Even for a young country, there are fables and legends. But you are totally right, today it must be a lot harder to fake monster sightings. Which is why our second interview is about critical thinking and having a healthy dose of skepticism.
  7:22pm
Emily:

@fullmetalmonkey for sure. OR they’re his henchman. Henchalopes.

CJ@Shawnee OH:

I live in Ohio. They say there are sightings of Bigfoot close to me. All I ask , Why haven't they found footprints in the snow, Deer hunters tramp all through the woods around here in the winter. or a dead body. And with all the game cameras in my area some one should have had a picture by now.--- Oh Wait a minute I think I just saw one playing with my dogs in the backyard. I'll get back to you, hopefully with a few photos.
  7:27pm
fullmetalmonkey:

What if Bigfoot had wings?
  7:27pm
Aaron in Minneapolis:

Kate!
Avatar 7:28pm
kimzilla:

I had to trim this story but what was crazy about the jersey devil was that they actually just used a kangaroo on display, painted it green and threw some wings on it, and then let people poke it with a stick.
  7:29pm
Sam:

Every time I’ve gone hiking in the pine barrens I’ve been harassed by jersey devils. They’re out of freakin control. Usually now when I hear them coming I just head back t my car - not even worth it.

Well, we're finding new and strange creatures almost every month. But for something to stay hidden for so long in a relatively populated area? ....
  7:30pm
Kate:

@ Aaron this sounds like a very unlikely story to explain the Jersey devil, who everyone knows haunts the entire state to this day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:31pm

There is a famous photo of Bigfoot that people analyze like the Zapruder film but I forget the names of the men who took the photo.

TY Kimzilla. I think I could handle your musical taste. If you you listen to WFMU you can handle anything :)
  7:35pm
Sam:

No, they sneak up on me and howl and make threatening gestures, and they swoop around me, then hide, then get up in my face, a few times they pushed me onto the ground and it really hurt. I’ll swing a big stick at them sometimes. I’m tired of their crap.

critical thinking is limited by the base of knowledge you've been given
Avatar 7:49pm
CJ@Shawnee OH:

Wonder what kind of music this guy listens to. Just wondering.
  7:49pm
Sam:

Is it rational to believe in ghosts or aliens if you’ve heard tons of stories from reputable people who claim to have encountered them? Or is it more rational to assume the person was somehow mistaken? Even when they’re sure it’s true and different people report similar things? Then again, people are so easily deluded.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:49pm
Phillippe Bastille:

Mythical creature around here is a human who will let you in when you put your turn signal on. Never seen one in the wild.

Avatar 7:53pm

@Sam, that's a very good question. Emily and I did an episode on alien abductions and this woman encountered something and she very much believed she was abducted. It felt very honest and real.
Avatar 7:53pm

@Kate, I am always holding out hope that more people will embrace logic, but listening to this it seems it's actually illogical for me to even HAVE that hope.

@dale - Or maybe a sitcom with the Bigfoot family.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:00pm
melinda:

Sam haha
Avatar 8:00pm
CJ@Shawnee OH:

@ Dale Agreed. Write the script. I ve seen you type enough on here to handle it.
  8:01pm
Listener Robert:

Until ~20 yrs. ago, when you subbed for a scheduled host on WFMU, you were the guest host of that show. Now it's usually tht you're doing your own show at an unscheduled time.
  8:01pm
Kate:

@Bootsie I get that, I think reality is relative, but we can still use logic
  8:01pm
Listener Robert:

Archiving is what I think changed that dynamic.
