Whip-Smart went with me and futurewife on our trip to Puerto Rico in '94. Tape deck in the car, who remembers?

Hello all, again

Roberto:

Aww major bummer about Peggy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08pm
Phillippe Bastille:

@Roberto sadly, I remember 8-tracks. Loved it when they clicked over mid song.
  10:09pm
Carmichael:

Heya Samantha. RIP Mod Squad gal.

Carmichael:

YES!!!!
Avatar 10:10pm
Roberto:

Phillippe, it's always reassuring to know some people still exist who are older than I.

pp:

She could sing. Wasn't quite Babs but thought it was Laura.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14pm
Phillippe Bastille:

@Roberto yeah, I'm kinda old. I'm at that age where they don't bother making funny birthday cards for anymore.
  10:18pm
Carmichael:

Richard Thompson is my guitar idol.
Avatar 10:18pm
Roberto:

Good to know. I find the older I get, the more people there are who are younger and the fewer there are who are older. Funny how that works.
Avatar 10:19pm
Roberto:

Tacocat will probably never top that song about the psychic death cat.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20pm
Listener John from NJ:

@Phillippe Bastille: Just because you remember 8-tracks doesn't mean you're old.
  10:23pm
John from Florham Park:

@Roberto I have found since I hit the big 50 5 years ago I have become far less tolerant of commercial radio and the same bullshit I hear all day long and the djs having no personality, that is why I am listening more and more to stations like this
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25pm

@KFHP evening to you
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27pm
Phillippe Bastille:

@John from NJ True, but not in my case. I'm old. They actually needed to make a new US flag in my lifetime.
  10:28pm
Carmichael:

I’m apparently older than all you folks. But this is still the place to be.
  10:28pm
John from Florham Park:

@Phillipe you must be in your 60s now
  10:29pm

I thought this sounded like Patty Pravo. I need Bellisima
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29pm
coelacanth∅:

Roberto i had (have) whip-smart on cassette too, as well as a "cassingle" (one of the most wasteful formats ever to exist, i suppose) of supernova, with maybe her least "commercial" track ever in the b side. (i forget the name of it though)
  10:30pm
John from Florham Park:

@Carmichael damn straight about that don’t have a bad word to see about any djs

I love YOU, Therese! And all you beautiful WFMU listeners. Hi! I think Tacocat is originally from the weird little town i came from, maybe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33pm

being the audio snob I was back then I was anti 8 track ,, think they were intended more for the care ie,, random access , sort of []

Sorry to be a stickler, Therese, but not all mothers did that for their kids. In my case, I was adopted but my adoptive mother is the only mother I've ever known.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

Hey, John. Winding down on a Sunday night.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36pm
coelacanth∅:

8-tracks were (like the 4-tracks that preceded them) developed for use in automobiles.
  10:37pm
John from Florham Park:

@Ken me too going to set the timer while I drift off to sleep
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37pm
Phillippe Bastille:

I remember the tee shirt shops on the OC MD boardwalk selling bootleg 8 tracks right out in the open. Snagged a Procal Harem and a shirt with a Chevelle with flames coming out of it on the back.
Avatar 10:38pm
Therese:

@Roberto- you are absolutely correct. I didn't mean to exclude adoptive mothers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38pm
Phillippe Bastille:

Day-um, this GoG is perfection!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38pm
Tome:

man some of the stuff i had on cassette which I would so willingly share with this station and all live stuff etc... could never be replaced despite the low fi almost non existent hi end ,, my mid 90's move and meltdown ,, just trashed em all ,,((( --
Avatar 10:40pm
Roberto:

No prob, Therese! Sorry to get all righteous up in there.
  10:42pm
katharsis:

Loving the show Therese
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46pm
coelacanth∅:

in the late 70s i asked for a cassette deck for xmas- ready to start building a component hi-fi and i considered that the first step (i already had a shitty amp i could use it with) but my parents as usual didn't listen or have faith in me or whatever and gave me a compact stereo system (capehart brand) that had no cassette but an 8-track player/recorder. (which i was to figure out ran a bit slow)
it turned out to be a blessing because i soon started fucking with it and cracking open the tapes to make shorter loops and wiring it back into itself (for a "frippertronics" kind of effect) etc
still use 8-tracks to this day for recording weird crap.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47pm
coelacanth∅:

wow. long post of no significance.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48pm

Thanks, Spicy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55pm

sometimes Blumin's comments blow up with food talk -which is sometimes odd when his musical selections are so ...out-of-body?

I've been around for some of the Funyums discussions, but I don't think that's where you're headed on this.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00pm
coelacanth∅:

(thank goodness for punctuation)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01pm
Granny Spicy Tuna:

coelacanth∅: maybe Blumin's listeners are trying to ground themselves by discussing food?
  11:02pm
Carmichael:

@coel, the first thing I’d usually do is take stuff apart. Always ended up with a few extra parts!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04pm
coelacanth∅:

haha Granny, good point!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07pm
coelacanth∅:

Carm, me too but i had to wait a while if my parents bought it. i think i waited a year or 2 to experiment with the capehart; but the first time an 8-track tape failed i broke it open to fix it and there was a revelation in the looping department!
Avatar 11:07pm
Roberto:

You take 'em both, and there you have....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09pm

So what Therese is really saying is cancel all of our plans and listen to WFMU all the time. OK! I'm all for it. YES!
