Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm

yah, many good versions
...maybe not varied enough for a good 3ok actually. the differences are usually subtle
(i have a playlist of maybe 20 ? on youboob -or, last i knew, a few years ago)
Avatar 12:32pm

Well, let me add it to the list and see what I can find; subtle differences may not be enough to make it worthwhile.

Hi Mary!
Hi fellow 100%ers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm
Rich in Washington:

Don't know about other folks, but Goodwill is the only thrift store left in my town, with about five stores. They've pretty much wiped out all local mom n' pop thrift stores.
They're also not so great for records, as - I've been told - they funnel most 'valuable' records to their online sale portals, which is why things found in stores are 95% easy listening crap no one wants, dull classical records, crap gospel records.
Avatar 12:52pm
Mary Wing:

Hi Parq and Rich!

Goodwill is pretty lame, in my opinion. There was a store on the upper west side of Manhattan which got a fancy makeover, and suddenly became a... damn, what's the word I want? Oh! CURATED! They touted themselves as curated items, which of course meant the prices went up. I was in that neighborhood a few weeks ago and saw that they had closed, ha!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm
Rich in Washington:

Oh, those 'curated' Goodwills are strange! The only one near me is in nearby-ish Portland OR, in the hipstery part of Hawthorne district. It's in what used to be a bank, and has carefully selected 'upscale' items or vintage stuff at vintage store prices. Weird.
Avatar 12:54pm
Mary Wing:

And yes, their record selection sucks, and they have the nerve to charge $2 for crappy, scratched-up discs/

The thrifts/record shops around here aren't too bad. One is run by Doug Wygal who you may know from "The Individuals" (Hoboken band).

We have both Goodwill and the Salvos in our nabe, along with a HousingWorks and several semi-upscale thrift stores (including one to support the NYC Opera).

No way, Henry! Is Doug still playing drums in a group?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm
Rich in Washington:

The Goodwills in Vancouver WA sell all records, regardless of crapitude, for 3.99. Some double LPs are 6.99. Needless to say, it's cut back my used record addiction quite a bit. I'm no longer willing to shell out 4 bucks for a goofy looking record unless I know it's something special.

but just a month ago or so, had this incredible good luck streak and found some amazing records. Not sure why. But it was like that person hooked on horseracing who suddenly hits a winning streak in the dollar window. It sort of got me going regularly again, somewhat obsessively.

Amazing records that didn't trigger the person who pulls the good ones to sell online, obviously. Lucky, indeed!

I once intercepted a big unattended rolly bin that was about to go out to the shelves of my local Salvation Army and fished out record after record - like the kinds of records you find in your thrift store dreams. Insane. And it was half off day. It's stories like that that keep me hopelessly addicted to cratedigging. Like a junky who finds a lush asleep on the subway with a fat wallet falling out of their overcoat.

the die krupps track title is acceptable, but an artist loses some of my respect when they/he/she entitles a song specifically to trick people into checking out (and often, therefore, resulting in revenue) a song. (ie "tomorrow never knows"...)

Hello, Mary and everybuddy!
I loved Spotify: you could find every version of almost anything, from the first recording to the latest, sometimes 100 years worth! Also good for rounding up total output of a favorite artist. Got to listen to Ethel Waters from '20s to '50s for example.
Since finding wfmu my Spotify account has been dormant. Listening parties are much more fun than listening in isolation!
