Aw! I'll listen! I got your email and read the NY Press Mustafio piece, which was v. interesting, but also, one of the two guys who made up Mustafio was named Lane Steinberg, which there is a very obscure but good and prolific power pop musician, who was sometimes lived in New York, and about the same age as the Mustafio Lane Steinberg. But I don't know; probably two separate people.

Drunken Creep:

Phil Ochs is a legend, a very interesting and somewhat tragic figure. He's got a lot of great tracks, and an interesting musical evolution. He later began calling himself John Butler Train and let some demons out under that name. Bless him and his contributions to the world.
Avatar 1:37am
Bill Mac:

@Nick Were Lilys part of that group of artists?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38am

I had an Elk Power cd and Of Montreal, haven't listened in years.

I can no longer stay up past midnight without paying for it the next day.

I think Lilys were on Slumberland?? Early Secret Square and Elf Power were also on Elephant 6. So many amazing releases. Essex Green were great too.
Avatar 1:41am

I remember Essex Green.... I plead ignorant on Secret Square, hence my ignorant remark at the beginning of the show.

Secret Square was a duo if I remember correctly...My dad was really into Phil Ochs in the '60s. I'm 50+ now too...welcome to old age Curtis ha

My personal favorite Ochs LPs are Pleasures of the Harbor, Tape from California and Rehearsals for Retirement. In case that's worth mentioning.

i've heard this version, Prince singing his own song, a few times now, and first, it's a beautiful song, which comes out in Prince's version; but second, my god, it also reminds me that Sinéad O'Connor's version is just awesome.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34am
Drunken Creep:

RW: Pleasures of the harbor is an all time great. Such precision and concentrated songs. Very inspiring, especially coming from a folk singer and his eventual story. Debe Dalton, a searchably solid and excellent friend, met Ochs twice. Once as Ochs and once as Butler. The story is one was energizingly nice to be near, and the other was bitterly painful. Bless the entirity

Phil Ochs Greatest Hits is possibly my favourite (it's like saying who is your best child when selecting records). Very autobiographical.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:40am
Drunken Creep:

Back in the day I covered a phil ochs track myspace.com... , a song called William Butler Yeats Visits Lincoln Park and Escapes Unscathed. I wonder if that melody influenced elton john's goodbye yellow brick road, its about the same hook and Ochs was first with it
