Yes, there was a kerfluffle about Rihanna on WFMU in the last hour. I love how the freeform approach reframes familiar songs in an unfamiliar context.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm
Rich in Washington:

Indeed, GST. Many a song/artist garners more appreciation from me via WFMU DJs who put them in a whole other context, just by the sheer eclecticness of their thoughtful selection.
Avatar 🦇 12:38pm
Julie:

wow Martini very cool. I've never seen her perform.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm

that was an awkward paragraph. I blame it on too much coffee.

I saw that Momus / Kahimi show in Detroit. The opener was Mile Gillephlen (sp?) and it was like they just kept adding layers and people as none of them left the stage. Was the NY show the same?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:10pm
Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

John from Florham park: howdy! isn't it thrilling to discover the depths and widths of sound recordings? Especially when so creatively offered by the programmers on WFMU.

I think Jiminy had a little inspiration from Zappa on this one.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:28pm
Phillippe Bastille:

Probably not something appropriate for the message board (not that that's ever stopped me) but I had something very funny happen to me at lunch that I have to share. I ran out to drop off a prescription, and while I was there I picked up an anniversary card (#32 today). I handed the card to the cashier and very conspiratorially leaned over and said "Don't tell anybody, but I forgot my anniversary." As she's taking my money, she calls out loud enough for practically the whole store to hear "Hey everybody, this guy forgot his anniversary!" Several customers in line and the other cashier were kind enough to describe how much trouble I was in...
Avatar 🦇 1:28pm
Julie:

hoo boy. are you in trouble?
  1:30pm
John from Florham park:

@phillippe very funny and the only thing that I would think of something inappropriate is hitting on someone that would be a very big no no
Avatar 1:30pm
huomenta:

As a kid I liked post-Syd Floyd too - turns out the Gilmour-sung tracks mostly. This one brings me back. listening to this on headphones as a snotty 10 year old (the local library of my tiny hometown did have surprisingly good records, I made some good finds when they sold stuff that was being deleted from their catalogue).
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:30pm
Phillippe Bastille:

Nah, not really. I remembered the date, just got thrown off by the holiday. went to bed last night thinking it was Tuesday the 3rd...

Thank you Julie!

and thanks for Donovan too (even if my internet crapped out during it, well I have a crackly vinyl of the lp), should get the mono sundazed version too
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:34pm
Phillippe Bastille:

@John ha! Can't remember when I even thought about hitting on someone...
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:36pm
CHUCK ROAST:

Yeah , didn't they do this soundtrack for "The Wall " ?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm
Rich in Washington:

The Wall? Never heard of it! Were there any memorable songs from it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm
Rich in Washington:

Is that the one with the flying pig?
  1:38pm
John from Florham park:

@Phillipe I agree with that
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm
Rich in Washington:

Love Syd, but my favorite Floyd spot was between Atom Heart Mother and Meddle, with the latter being their apex, imho.
Avatar 🦇 1:46pm
Julie:

I like all of it, including the wall. But I'm partial to Piper.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm
Rich in Washington:

I think I wore out two cassette tapes of The Wall in my freshman year. Just obsessively listening to it over and over. Shortly before discovering late night radio in my town and being mutated forever by The Residents and their ilk.

wonderful to be awash in glorious 80s/90 swirly reverb production. Wonderful show. I think I might have to bail on boring Thursday meetings from now on.

audiolog:

Thank you, Julie. The last two shows were great ... lots of new music. And that set (Mazzy Star, My Bloody Valentine, Mellonta Tauta and and further via my favorites Cocteau Twins) just continuous beauty... I am sorry if you accepted my criticism as a negative attitude towards your show and your efforts in music excavations. I want to assure you that I had nothing of the kind in mind. You are doing a great job. Thanks again!
