Favoriting Hinky Dinky Time with Uncle Michael: Playlist from October 25, 2019 Favoriting

Uncle Michael's avatar View Uncle Michael's profile Favoriting

Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

I actually trust record collectors more than the artists' memories in these matters. Discogs is heavily crowdsourced and would have been corrected on such a famous song.

Billboard issue from Jan. 13, 1968, reported, "The Osborne Brothers have a new release which pulls them even farther from the old Blue Grass tag. The recording is 'Rocky Top' b-w 'My Favorite Memory.' For the first time Sonny and Bobby utilize a steel guitar on their sessions." A late 1967 release is not out of he question, but Billboard was weekly, so it's possible it appeared during the first week of the new year.

My introduction to Cowboy Copas was this late night TV commercial on channel 13 in L.A. when I was just a boy. It was for a collection of country favorites. Let me tell you something young man - the day you loose touch with your internal thirteen year old is the day you stop getting invited to the fun parties. But if your idea of a good time is standing around in someones kitchen discussing the latest issue of The New York Review Of Books, you are already lost.

Iris, oh dear Iris! (And that Prine ain't shabby.)

"Let's Duet" from that cheesy movie "Walk Hard" recently made me think of Prine and DeMent. I think that's the song I was thinking. Thanks!

I'm all messed up, because I liked standing around pretentiously yapping about NYRoB when I was a 13YO. I once was lost, but now I'm found.

I still enjoy some of the prose, but frankly, the more I read about books I ought to read, the fewer books I'll have the time to read.

Another great version of "Raining in My Heart" came from Rick Danko of The Band on the 1st Ringo Starr All-Starr Band album.

Yes, that is a level headed realization. But seriously, do we really have to read a reassessments of Susan Sontags gassy emissions ever again?

Hello UM & all. My day would have been so much better if I had started listening hours ago. And do we know who was playing saxophone on the Ruth Brown tune.

We need a modest smattering of pledges to bring Hinky Dinky Time triumphantly across the line.

Help humanity, help WFMU, and help Uncle Michael puff out his chest with pride! Help Charley Pride, for goodness sake! (Felice and Boudleaux wrote him many hits.)

JUST HELP!
