@steveo: Disco was popular with minorities and it was gay-friendly. Nixon was an uptight white dude. He would have listened to Pat Boone or something.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37am

@yeti yeah, that's kind of the joke I'm trying to make (but you also have to admit some of these disco remakes are pretty terrible)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37am

@Hughie: Yes! In fact, very few remakes have actually been hits, so the whole enterprise seems incredibly misguided.

A few months after her appearance on the TAMI Show, Leslie Gore was at Sarah Lawrence, having halted her career for all intents and purposes; her fellow students snubbed her because her kind of pop wasn't bohemian enough. @coelacanth: Yeah, major label remakes of songs from indie labels are a whole 'nother story. B-52s, R.E.M., Go-Go's, you could do a whole show of those, too.

Joe yeah, the original 45 of rock lobster rules! (which says a lot because the album version is great too!)

IIRC the Residents rerecorded a bunch of their songs for a couple of compilations, on the premise that releasing a straight greatest hits comp would be too square.

I think of Jerry Lee Lewis as the selfie cover king. In part because he was the primary artist on the soundtrack of the Great Balls of Fire movie about his life.
