A live, improvised sound collage experiment, going back 28 years, weaving mesmerizing new soundscapes from found and collected materials right in the present moment.
Pop music, speeches, live phone calls and spontaneous monologues become ambient loopy layered threads riding the liminal spaces between waking and dreaming. [On hiatus.] (Visit homepage.)

Everything about the songs listing is super live. No more flashing page reloads once a minute.

I can even throw you all out to the bottom and then immediately welcome you back in...here comes that...
Avatar Swag For Life Member @3:04

@Kenzo the no flashing will make me VERY happy.

There's no delay once you hit 'update'?
Avatar Swag For Life Member @3:06
Phillippe Bastille:

The one thing that's a little weird for me is that when the comments autoscroll, the bottom line is half cutoff horizontally (PC, Firefox)
Avatar @3:07
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

@Philllllllppe Yeah, I'm seeing that too right now. And the auto-scroll/arrow thing isn't always kicking in.
Avatar @3:07
mb:

I kind of like the flashing page. It has snapped me out of many cannabis induced hazes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member @3:08
Phillippe Bastille:

The autoscroll rarely worked for me
Avatar @3:08
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Well instead of flashing you're going to get sea sick from all the fading in and out of song changes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member @3:08
Rich in Washington:

It seems to have eliminated the persistent 'down' arrow at the bottom of the comments that I encounter w/Mac - Chrome. It actually prevents one from highlighting text - like if you wanna copy someone's name to reply.
I don't see thathere, which is nice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member @3:09
Phillippe Bastille:

Dramamine, cannabis, all kind of the same
Avatar @3:09
mb:

Autoscroll rarely worked and sometimes the arrow stayed lit indicating there was a new post BUT there was not a new post.
Avatar Swag For Life Member @3:09
Rich in Washington:

I could see me getting used to the fading in playlist entries.
Avatar @3:09
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Yeah, the comments arrow/scroll thing didn't work right on some browsers and I think that's still the case. Maybe the persistent arrow will happen less, but I want to get that whole thing working better.
Avatar Swag For Life Member @3:09
Rich in Washington:

Yeah, mb. That's exactly what I meant. It was sort of a pain.
Avatar Swag For Life Member @3:11
Phillippe Bastille:

I think the down arrow was some kind of sophisticated AI/machine learner that knew someone was thinking about posting
Avatar Swag For Life Member @3:13

Now I'm listening to two shows AND the House of Representatives hearing at the same time.

Avatar @3:15
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

One comments change is that if you keep commenting after the show ends and things are at the bottom, the comments will keep updating for a while; so, that last bit of convo won't be lost.

Hmmm. Honestly I don't know what the difference is, as I rarely visit playlists on my phone, but it seems a bit easier than I remember it. Definitely better than the app and unofficial app.
Avatar @3:20
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

The text is more of a normal size rather than a crazy desktop page zoom, plus the comments and songs are kept separate (if your screen is narrow enough).
Avatar Swag For Life Member @3:21
Rich in Washington:

Yeah. I'm definitely going to read and comment this way on my phone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member @3:22

Sorry if you had anything to do with the app.
Avatar Swag For Life Member @3:23
Ken From Hyde Park:

On Windows Firefox browser, as comments come in, I have to move the scroll bar down to see them. The floating arrow thingie isn't appearing like in the previous version (when you click it, it would zoom you down to the bottom of the comments).
Avatar @3:23
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Not a thing (well, it interacts with my server backend of course) and yeah it's awful. There's a new one from a new dev right around the corner, though!

Don't know if this matters or you already covered it:
When adjusting browser window size horizontally to be smaller, going from either left or right, everything at the top and the comments area adapts with line-breaks, etc. to stay "whole" and visible, but the actual playlist grid stays same size/layout and gets covered up by the comments stack as it slides across. Eventually, at the max horiz adjustment it'll let me do, the left section of the playlist is only visible to half the "Format" column.
On Irwin's now-active playlist, his 3 columns do reduce themselves horizontally to stay visible.
On David W now-active playlist, the horizontal adjustment will have comment area moving over to cover just his far-right DJ comment column.
Make sense?

Thanks everyone for the listening and presence and testing and talking and thinking and helping. Any ideas at all, please send them on. Watch how you can even keep typing comments after the show is over and they'll show up right away! You won't lose that last comment you were typing, either.

Look, I can throw you all to the bottom temporarily and we can see...

Now stop that Ken. Let the guts be on the inside where the guts are supposed to be. Regarding the update. Ya done good. Not sure why others saying something about auto scroll for the playlist. I'm ok without that. The now playing at the top updated and if I scroll to the bottom the entry is there.
Avatar @6:54
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

@WR Maybe so. But now the bottom is a more fun and updated place to be looking than the now playing at the top.
Avatar Swag For Life Member @6:55

I like being in control so the auto scroll ever time now playing updates has been an irritant to me.

@WR Well maybe an arrow that leads you to the bottom if you press it, and auto-scroll if you're already at the bottom that keeps you there. i.e. Like I do with the comments already.

Here I'm going to pretend to end the playlist and then start it back up and you should all not be affected at all.

Thanks Ken. Once both the comments and playlist windows scroll, it will make my listening experience much better when I'm listening while working. With the current format, I have to stop what I'm doing to scroll to see what others are saying or what song is playing. With the new and improved interface, I just have to look up

Update on Safari: toggling 'overflow: scroll' off (in dev tools) on div.songs_except_comments makes it work again.

On FF on w10 all looks same. Change was more noticable on the android, and having the chat and song list not showing at same time on the phone is OK design choice. Maybe even definitely better once people use it a couple times
Avatar Swag For Life Member @7:02
Phillippe Bastille:

@Kenzo comments do. I thought I saw somewhere that the playlist autoscrolling would be a nice enhancement
Avatar Swag For Life Member @7:03
WR:

Duh, by same I mean on FF on w10 it looks very much like as before the change.
  @7:04
tester:

It makes the comments and posting box divs appear again on iPad and Mac Safari. Previously they were empty boxes. I assume the same would happen on plus sized iPhone in landscape as well.
Avatar @7:06
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

@WR Great. The real changes are that the songs section updates itself super dynamically, and that the page never does any full page reloading...

@tester Thanks for the tip. These are up-to-date iPad's and Mac's, or non-updated?

@WR On mobile, I want to make it have a visual indicator when there's new comments or song, so you know you should flip over.

On the android the playlist page changed as usual for when it is "closed". The W10 FF playlist still says playlist is still being updated.

Oh yeah I forgot to switch it to closed while you were all still here and test the post-show comment updating that now happens. Anyone still here?
Avatar Swag For Life Member @7:17

Or maybe not.... Unless you are still tweaking it I some how got confused. I went back to the page on the phone and back to playlist is still being updated.
Avatar @7:18

OK, well, I'm going to switch it to "finished" mode and we can continue to add comments at the bottom without needing to reload page! Let's try...

Avatar Swag For Life Member @7:25
WR:

Yes, I noticed that mobile zoom went away, for some playlists I have to zoom in to read the tiny print. And I hope you just "re-opened" the playlist because thats what I see now.
Avatar @7:26
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Zoom in should work. It's just that you can't zoom out further than the initial view, i.e. if you'd rather the wide playlist all fit on one little screen.
Avatar @7:26
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Yeah I moved us back into in-progress view so as not to discourage further comments despite that those would still be live updated.
Avatar Swag For Life Member @7:30
WR:

Zoom only did a little bit, maybe because it is near the max? I dunno, but yes, cannot zoom out to make the playlist width small enough to fit into the screen.
Avatar @7:30
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

I can increase the allowable zoom in...will do some more now..
Avatar @7:31
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

I could allow a ton more zoom-in but I was worried about people getting lost. Your feedback helps.
