Well it's been an interesting morning here right Alina!? hah
Avatar 1:15pm
Mr Fab:

was wondering what the heck was up with that Shirley Maclaine track, turns out it's related to a film of the same name. Judging by the stills, it involves belly dancing. And was written by a pre-Exorcist William Peter Blatty.
Avatar 1:16pm
arb:

quite interesting! keeping me on my toes
Avatar 1:17pm
arb:

I haven't seen the film but sounds great, its such a groovy song
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm

Wow! I just walked outside. It's warm and sunny and so clear the mountains look 3-D.
Avatar 1:18pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm

Alina, keep us informed about that. I want to see your show.
Avatar 1:23pm
Mr Fab:

Hope you're right about the weather Franco, its so damn cold, I'm tempted to do a little belly dancing myself just to warm up. Tho that spectacle, like the "Cats" movie, is probly something no one should see.
Avatar 1:23pm
arb:

Do you think Pulsallama were inspired by this song
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23pm
coelacanth∅:

Franco - it's gorgeous out here. must be just above freezing because everything's still coated with beautiful sparkly ice but it's dripping a little and glistening and diffracting the bright sunshine and crackling like an ice fire.
yes, we have no mountains here; but if i were home, 75 miles north, they'd look (and be) 3-d
  1:24pm
Martinibomb:

@Fab was with a bunch of folks from LA here in Portland last night and they were loosing their minds with the cold/wet here.
Avatar 1:24pm
Ursula1000:

hmmm Pulsallama...maybe?
Avatar 1:25pm

Mr Fab:

the phrase "ungawa" in various spellings turns up in all manner of jungle movies/exotic records. Guess it was a catch-phrase back then.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm

Avatar 1:32pm
ARB:

Mr Fab you always know the mid century etymology so can you splain Wagon Tongue?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm
Franco Twinkie:

Mr. Fab. I remember a TV commercial for these snap together wild animals, and the actor talking was dressed like a witch doctor and his name was Bombulu. I believe he yelled Ungawa!
Avatar 1:33pm
Mr Fab:

Just found this: "In the KiSwahili language of East Africa and Central Africa "umgawa" means "entangled". But in 1932 MGM screenwriter Cyril Hume lifted the word "umgawa" from the Swahili language for the Tarzan movies. Those movies were being adapted from books written by Edgar Rice Burrough books.

In the Tarzan movies "ungawa" was the way that Tarzan communicated with animals and with Black people who lived in the near where Tarzan found himself. That word could mean whatever the screenwriters wanted it to mean."
Ha, so yeah, that's a great Jungle Room catch-phrase.
Avatar 1:33pm
Ursula1000:

Found it! Louie Ramirez (Ali Baba) - Ungawa has a great "ungawa" opener---boogaloo jam
