	9:38am YETI BOB: There was a place in Brooklyn called San Cono when I lived there (20+ years ago). I still remember their "Fresca" slice, I have no idea how they made it so delicious but it was just amazing. I don't imagine that place is still around.

	9:46am Listener Robert: YETI, pizza's a personal thing. I make my own pizza, everything but the sauce/gravy (which is store-bought, usually whatever's cheapest), and I like how it comes out better than any pizzeria pizza, but my friends don't like it much or even acknowledge that it's pizza.

	9:53am Listener Robert: I deliberately made my pizza once like pizzeria pizza so my housemate Bob would like it. He did, but then I didn't like it as much. I herb and age the dough, I put the vegetables on raw, not pre-cooked, I make it in a roasting pan, and it comes out somewhat like a tostada.

	9:59am Listener Robert: When I was living in Chicagoland (1975-80), there was only one place that had NY style pizza by the slice, on Lincoln Ave. The most popular places to get pizza were bars, and then it was just frozen individual Tombstone pizzas, cut in little squares to be eaten with a knife and fork. Feh! I asked one bartender why she couldn't serve it sliced like a pie, and she said, "Nah. It'd never work."

	10:02am Andrew_in_WI: As a former Chicagoan I'd say a true Chicago-style pizza is a once, maybe twice, a year thing.
	10:02am Listener Robert: For sophisticates in Chicagoland at that time, there were thin crust pizzas (still to be cut in squares and eaten with a knife and fork), thick crust pizzas (similar, not as thick crusted as NY Sicilian pie), and deep dish, casserole style. The pizzas had more VARIETY of toppings than typical in NY then, but the QUALITY was not as good.

	10:05am YETI BOB: The brilliant thing about party-cut pizza (the little squares, which I had to get used to when I moved to Chicago) is that you can just keep shoving them in your mouth without counting. There's never that moment of realizing "Oh this is my 5th slice, I should stop now!" You can always have one more little delicious square. (And maybe another beer).

	10:07am Listener Robert: Haversack, pizza scholars have determined NYC pizza came from Chicago in the 1930s, although its distant origins may have been Neapolitan. But somehow, Chicago style got away from its own origins, mutating into the strangeness I saw 40+ years ago. Pizzeria Uno then exported Chicago's deep dish style to the country via chains.

	10:09am Listener Robert: The real innovation of recent times has been Mexican style pizza, which I first had at Gordo's in Valhalla NY. And do you notice who makes pizza at the pizzerias now in NYC, at least in the "boros"? Mostly Central Americans now, it seems. And they're good at it, whether they're making it NY-NJ style or Mexican style.

One of my boys was part of an organization that fed feral cats in the Pimlico neighborhood and I went with him a few times. Entire blocks of abandoned homes, others with only a couple occupied.

	9:59am Listener Robert: When I was living in Chicagoland (1975-80), there was only one place that had NY style pizza by the slice, on Lincoln Ave. The most popular places to get pizza were bars, and then it was just frozen individual Tombstone pizzas, cut in little squares to be eaten with a knife and fork. Feh! I asked one bartender why she couldn't serve it sliced like a pie, and she said, "Nah. It'd never work."
