Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33am

Comus is also the name of the original Mardi Gras krewe, started in 1859. Like most of the old-line krewes (except Rex), it's a true secret society. They have no web presence of any kind, and since day one nobody's ever known for sure who's in it.

“the greek god of festivity, revels, and nocturnal dalliances” is a good name for the original krewe
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39am
Mr. Pumpy:

Thanks rich. Goodnight to you and all the carcass inflators. Stay squirrely!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40am
Handy Haversack:

It is really good, rich! For the NYC one, I know some weird perspectives from that stretch since I see it from very small boats on the East River. The playing with perspective is very cool in those pictures, and in Annecy too (where I would happily mess about in very small boats if given the chance, from the pictures). I like the unconcerned human-giant figures in the Annecy pix while all the (bad) emotions go on in the foreground.
  12:42am
rich:

looks like the greeks did not have a god of daytime dalliances
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43am

Would happily take Diurnal Dalliance as a nom de guerre.

That's it, rich. The Lord of Misrule. It was a pretty literate crowd too, they took the name from a minor Milton poem ("A Masque Given at Ludlow Castle"). Comus is the son of Bacchus. In 1968, when the nouveau-riche crowd formed the Krewe of Bacchus (the first super-krewe), it was done as a playful swipe at Comus, since Bacchus is the daddy.

...and i scroll up to see a conversation about the miniature art. and (Handy @12.40) the displays of sculptures could be, and are, looked at as displays of sculptures; but truly the setting of the miniatures among the "unconcerned human giant figures" is the sculpture itself. as if the small people are in the giant people's world and it's brutal and sad.
