Mickey Gilley - got a story for you folks about Gilley's. I grew up in Houston. After Urban Cowboy came out, everybody went hog wild for that '80's Country crap - my mom, especially! Well, I was about 12 when the movie came out and my parents started taking me with them to Gilley's. I rode the bull at a 7, which it only goes to 9, and I didn't fall off! Yeah! I was a gymnast. So, I guess that helped. My parents almost got divorced/separated there, too, after an afternoon of partying at a festival outdoors when I was 13. Dad got way too drunk and they had a big fight. They stayed together and are still together to this day - almost 55 years of marriage!

Yeah, String, they only did cause my dad quit drinking by the time I was 21. It's a good thing. He and I were both alike - bing drinkers! That's why I can't drink anymore either - too many blackouts and passouts!

I grew up in Seabrook which was only about 15 minutes from Pasadena where Gilley's was. Pasadena, TX was called "Pasa-get-down-dena" or "Stink-a-dena" by the locals. The latter cause all the chemical plants were there - I mean, a huge row of them that stretched a few miles!!

Another memory - my aunt (who is only 5 years older than me, mom's babiest sister) - she met Johnny Lee when she was visiting us and he started pursuing her! They dated briefly, but she went back to her high school sweetheart and married him. Johnny was quite a bit older than her!
