This is where all of culture and all of time are collapsed into one seductive portal and viewed through the panoramic lens of the exotic. Come and embark on an armchair-travel virtual-voyage to the heart of timeless darkness and beyond; embrace the numinous monolith of the exotic immensity. Let us find that place where hybridization meets its destiny as pure fantasy. Let us become observers observing those others who are ourselves. You wear your mask and I'll wear mine.

What a coicidence. I, too, listen to Explorers Room on my hi-fi while laying on a red velvet floor covering, surrounded by LPs and my prized collection of antique gumballs.

On discogs the is an overlap of a record by Buck Ram and The Leon Symphoniette. If you have the physical record, does it look like Ram had anything to do with the recording or did he just get to put his name on the USA King release?
Avatar 7:19pm
Flash Strap:

@WR: I do have the physical copy, tonight is all physical in fact

I noticed that too - my copy is a serial number not represented on discogs, and has no back cover or any mention of Buck Ram, so I have no clue!
Avatar 7:19pm
Flash Strap:

But I mean, maybe he really went to Japan and produced it! very weird record

That La Tino Cha Cha Cha cover is a bit bizarre. So aggressively sexual.

@WR: true for a lot of mambo / cha cha records but rarely so demonically executed

I guess it's derivative of both mambo and danzón? so it's more hybridized in that way? much to learn on this subject

Plug in your busted guitars next door at the Cool Blue Flame for my blues drone special; this evening a particular strain of the great blues continuum with STRANGE ELECTRICITY: two hours of blues drones, hypnotic R&B guitars, and electric places and otherwordly modes in between. Guitar inventors, wreckers, eccentrics, and sound makers from Bo Diddley, John Lee Hooker, Junior Kimbrough, and Bukka White to lost heroes like Pinebluff Pete, Early Drane, Julius King, Alabama Watson, and many, many others.
