Connected and ready for album side length tracks.

Ready to listen in, Kris and Matt!

Matt from New Orleans:

My power was off for 9 hours today as Entergy was doing maintenance on some lines in my area. They didn’t notify me or any of my neighbors. It was a fun day in my warm apartment.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:04pm
WR:

Damn Matt, no fun.
Avatar 10:05pm
Kris Holmes:

He everyone, thanks for being here! LPs stress me out.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:08pm
Candy-O'67:

Matt, that sucks! Sorry you had to deal with that!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:10pm
WR:

Lee Morgan was the first legit jazz artist i saw in a night club, in San Francisco in I think June of 1970. I was just learning about jazz and not sure who all was in the band but it seemed like for each guy, after they had a feature part or solo Morgan would say "be sure to check out their new album, ...."

Matt from New Orleans:

Here you go WR www.discogs.com...
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:12pm
WR:

LOL, even playing LP cuts you selected a McGriff tune that was released on 45.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14pm
Matt from New Orleans:

I have had the Spanish bootleg for many many years.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:15pm
WR:

Thanks Matt, I've looked at that and listened to it but still not sure if exactly that lineup.
Avatar 10:19pm
Kris Holmes:

Goddanm these songs seem so long!!!!

chiming in quick, always enjoy the lp going unsteady show! hiya mr holmes, hi everyone.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:21pm
WR:

It was so many new things happening that night (long story, won't go into it) I had hard time processing everything going on. Would like to think I heard Maupin that year, maybe it was, but could not connect the sax player i saw and heard with what was on Bitches Brew and the soon to come Hancock recordings.

Kris Holmes:

Hi Jason.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21pm
Matt from New Orleans:

It’s not like you’ve played Castles in the Sand/Foxey Lady by Gil Evans at almost 12 minutes. Hi Jason.
Avatar 10:21pm
Kris Holmes:

I'm already glad this is only once a year
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm
Matt from New Orleans:

I wish you’d play LPs more often
Avatar 10:22pm
Kris Holmes:

But dang this Larry Young is a shredfest
Avatar 10:23pm
Kris Holmes:

What are you trying to say there exactly Matt? Ha
Avatar 10:24pm
Kris Holmes:

Also, I pulled way too many LPs off the shelves for this, as usual. My timing is all off. Sleeves are already everywhere.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:24pm
WR:

Yes, this Larry Young recording is burning, somehow I overlooked it when I was buying recordings by him in the 70s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25pm
Matt from New Orleans:

I’m just saying that there’s plenty of good soul/funk/r&b that never got released on 45 especially as we hit the late 60s/early 70s.
Avatar 10:25pm
Kris Holmes:

I am convinced the only reason this is slept on way more than Unity from the same year is that the cover art is less iconic
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:31pm
WR:

I don't recall seeing this cover in stores. Maybe it was out of print early / mid 70s. Maybe I just was too much of a hippie during that time and don't remember well. Gale on trumpet was great.
Avatar 10:33pm
Kris Holmes:

Two drummers too
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:36pm
WR:

This Redman is fun. Have not heard it since it was issued on Arista in 75. I didn't appreciate the swing they had going on, somewhat similar to South African jams.
Avatar 10:36pm
Kris Holmes:

Very tribal, the whole album is great. There's some outstanding stuff on Arista Freedom.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37pm
Matt from New Orleans:

Do you have this 45 Kris? www.discogs.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37pm
Matt from New Orleans:

Really digging the different Jazz vibes
Avatar 10:38pm
Kris Holmes:

Nope
Avatar 10:39pm
Kris Holmes:

My LP collection is still pretty Jazzy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39pm
Matt from New Orleans:

I like it. Not sure it’s worth whatever outrageous sums it probably goes for.
Avatar 10:40pm
Kris Holmes:

It's a cool 45. If I found it I'd file it. It has everything, sound & label design & it's a 45.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42pm
Matt from New Orleans:

It has the same name as a Gary Bartz song from the following year but from what I can recall different songs.
Avatar 10:43pm
Kris Holmes:

Oh I might have that Gary Bartz 45
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm
Matt from New Orleans:

This seems to be the vocalist’s only performance/writing credit.
Avatar 10:56pm
Kris Holmes:

She was a performance poet in NYC, not a vocalist as such
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:13pm
WR:

That Jackie McLean track is very interesting. Saw that LP around but I would have remembered if I heard that. Will be relistening to that one.

I don't recall what you did last year and all the jazz tracks you've played have been great, but I was expecting you to go more in a funk direction with LPS. No complaint, just my thoughts.
Avatar 11:15pm
Kris Holmes:

I've been feeling pretty Jazzy lately
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24pm
Matt from New Orleans:

George Jackson had so much material that never got released
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:34pm
WR:

Curious that Boogie Kings doesn't credit Covay on discogs. Wonder if typo or done like that on the LP.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39pm
Matt from New Orleans:

It’s misspelled. It says Cova & Otta. Instead of Covay & Ott.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42pm
Matt from New Orleans:

Now you’re just making your life difficult playing these short songs off of LPs. Way more cueing.
Avatar 11:43pm
Kris Holmes:

It's horrible!!!!! There is stuff everywhere
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:48pm
WR:

That was a great set. Whole show had been outstanding.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:51pm
WR:

Like these guys are doing their own variation of Buffalo Springfield Expecting to Fly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52pm
Matt from New Orleans:

RIP Spencer
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:54pm
WR:

Oh, shit, he passed yesterday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54pm
