Yes, Bob. I’ve actually been communicating with her the past week. That’s a whole other story!
  9:47am Dennis Diken:

Hey Bob! Hey everyone!
  9:48am Listener Robert:

Oof, Doc Rock, did you find out whether it was an ascending kindney infection or a descending (hematogenous) one?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48am dale:

i didn't watch any of it, but i remember from the 70s that it was like a dark version of 8 is enough.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:49am Wm.fromDumont:

What? Stanley Cowell died? Ugh.
  9:51am Listener Robert:

Dale, I just glanced at it, only remember one scene with the visiting grandma in the bathtub and all the kids in the bathroom talking to her.
Avatar 9:51am Bob Brainen:

Yeah, Family wasn't your typical soap opera drama, it had some substance.
Hey HopeWithFeathers,
Ah, Jeff so that's you with the Laura & Joni! Nice!
Hey Denny, hey Listener Robert.
dale that's an interesting way to put it.
  9:52am Doc Rock:

@ listener Bob - I have no idea what kind it is.
  9:54am Listener Robert:

Aw, I was hoping "Doc Rock" meant MD. Anyway, an ascending kidney infection comes up the urinary tract, while a hematogenous one comes from the bloodstream. They have different implications for the likelihood of recurrence and other illnesses.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55am Andrew in Toronto:

Hey Dennis!
  9:55am Jeff:

Yeah, Bob, that’s me. Did I ever tell you that one of my friends had Laura Nyro as her camp counselor at sleep away camp in the Catskills early ‘60s? Also, Doc Rock is lifelong friends with Laura’s percussionist Nydia Mata. So, I’m sorta connected to Laura in a six degrees of separation kind of way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55am melinda:

@dale I like that description
  9:57am Dennis Diken:

Hey Andrew!
  9:58am Listener Robert:

The value of that bathroom scene for exposition was the implication that, if the kids and grandma were so intimate, they'd be exchanging info they didn't trust to tell the generation in between, i.e. the kids' parents. Neat story trick, beats some omniscient voice-over.
  9:58am Doc Rock:

@Listener Robert - Sorry not an MD.
But thanks for the information.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58am Wendy del Formaggio:

Good morning, Bob, and playlist friends. Great show, as always, Bob! I was singing along to Steely Dan while doing my morning stretches. It really does help!
  9:58am Kpx:

Yo BB: I don't know if you know or not, but in case you don't, here's a little heads up. coming Tuesday 29th, is the DOD of Norma Tanega. So you might want to put together a little tribute for her in next Saturday show, if you're interested in doing so. or not?.
9:59am David in ATL from NJ:

Wow, what a great tune, Bob!
  10:01am JimB:

A friend posted an ad from 1917 for The Cave Room in the Hotel Grunewald on Baronne Street in the French Quarter. The Cave Room was actually a real cave that the hotel had converted to a club or dining room and the featured band was "Olsen's Banjo-Saxophone Quintette". THAT is a venue I would kill to see.
  10:03am P-90:

Well Bob if we weren’t all 100% awake yet, we are now...
  10:03am Listener Robert:

You'd think a hematogenous kidney infection would be worse news, like OMG, I have septicemia! But actually not so, it can be just a random occurrence of one kidney's filtering out a few bacteria that then set up an infection there. Meanwhile an ascending kidney infection is usually the result of a longer process of infection starting lower in the urinary tract and proceeding against the flow upstream, indicating a weakness there.
  10:03am Jeff:

Doc Rock = PhD in rock and roll
  10:05am JimB:

  10:12am Listener Robert:

Sorry about the confusion, Rev Rabbit, but I'm not the one with the kidney infection, I was just explaining things for Doc Rock, who does/did have one. However, with the size of my prostate, I may be headed for an ascending one some day!

Avatar 10:21am TDK60:

Rockin' Bob.
  10:22am Listener Robert:

Doc, usually it's a matter of the doctor's thinking s/he's wasting both of your time by explaining details you'd have no way to act on. Under some conditions I've gotten permission to intermediate between doctor and patient with communication. Maybe we can work something out. Usually that's best done by your primary care physician, but if you don't have one that can be a problem, in that the ER docs can figure they'll likely never see you again.
