News from the Freeform Front

WFMU Mobile Apps Still Work Our recent website problems are now resolved, but that is not to say that everything is as it was before our outages from July 3-7. Our radio program archive player works again but it is a new player. And our website has been restored to the way it was upon its retirement dinner ten years ago. It will evolve from this point forward. Our three free mobile apps also work well, except for station news. The "WFMU Radio" iphone app (here), the iphone "WFMU Archive Bunker App" (here), and the Android Woof-Moo app (here), are all chugging along audio-wise at 100%. News on the apps will be fixed soon. Thanks for bearing with us through this latest round of the WFMU Technology Curse!
Marathon Swag Is A-Comin’ Some of you have received your swag by now, but there are a bunch of you that we still need to get to. The biggest packages sometimes take the longest to get out the door, but they do always taste the sweetest. If you haven’t received yours yet, hang in there a bit longer, we’re a tiny operation chuggin’ along. It should be on its way soon! Should you have any questions about your pledge, feel free to drop Listener Services Director Joe McGasko an e-mail at: pledge@wfmu.org.

Remembering Brian Wilson On June 11th, the passing of Brian Wilson, the architect of the Beach Boys‘ sound and one of the most admired and influential figures in pop music history, inspired many WFMU DJs to pay tribute. The first show to announce the news was Nazario Scenario; afterwards, several DJs devoted large portions of their entire shows to remembering Mr. Wilson, including Dave the Spazz (who also highlighted Sly Stone, with special guests Dennis Diken and DA the DJ), Explorer’s Room, Acid Jazz Hands, Burn It Down!, Michael Shelley, Joe Belock (who mounted two specials, one on Three Chord Monte and a second on Shakin’ Street), and many more: Tony Coulter, The Frow Show, Where the Action Is, Big Planet Noise (also featuring Sly Stone), Bob Brainen, Irene Trudel, both the Orange Boutique and Orange Peel Hour, Ken, and Cherry Blossom Clinic. Many other DJs played a few songs, so check out the archives between June 11th and June 18th for even more remembrances of the man whose recorded legacy represents such a rich vein of American music.
