My grandaunt, Mae Molinari, made all her Italian dishes from scratch back in the early 1950s in Medford, Massachusetts. And ravioli was my favorite. Spoiled me for life on Chef Boy-Ar-Dee and anything a restaurant could dish out. What ingredient was missing from these "wannabe" ravioli? LOVE!

@Baja Joe. Yes, Miss Bassey, along with dozens of others, recorded the song, "People," but Barbra Streisand, who actually played Fanny Brice in Broadway's "Funny Girl, " introduced it on stage and on record. It's like her "signature" song. As is "Goldfinger" for Shirley Bassey.

@Gerry..., Agreed, but I do not care much for Ms. Streisand ever since I learned about her "little people" comment which was taken as a slight against the common person by many during in her 1969 acceptance speech for best actress in "Funny Girl." A month had passed and they hatched at last . . Hickory-hickory-teeth!

I appeared before a mirror with edges of flowing water . . Upon it fell a leaf . . I blink and the leaf becomes a gold-fish swmming in the mirror . . I blink again and the fish is dressed in a beautiful multi-colored robe . . I blink again and the fish is handing to me a sun-flower . . I grab the sun-flower and I disappear into the mirror . .
I am gone forever and ever . . As if I always was . . Beating a drum in a cloud . . Smiling through the faces of clocks . .
A digital pivot erased my face . . But I was heard in a cloud . . If I ever fall down, I will appear as a leaf . . This was told to me by a kissing gold-fish, a bird talking words and a chasm exiting my finger-tip.

@ RRN63: you are right about reality TV. the producers' whole job is to create a reality and persuade you that it is real by selecting people and turning them into characters. It's insidious.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm
Iχe:

@RRN63, that's true, and it's even from the same producer, but The Apprentice was fake, scripted stuff made up out of whole cloth. Survivor is more of a game show, and unscripted -- though there is occasionally a smidgen of editing trickery. They basically find material by putting weirdos on an island for 39 days, filming them constantly, and then cutting 42 minutes of material out of every 2 or 3 days. So, a different animal. That said, it's definitely not high art on any level, and can reportedly make some contestants feel paranoid for days or weeks after they get home. But I enjoy it.
Avatar 4:37pm
still b/p:

In the early days of the show I saw a bit of Survivor. Shit-heads posing and plotting and vying and kvetching, with the standard reality show edit and timing formulas for inventing emphasis or heightening drama(?). Did it change into something else, or is it still like that, and that's the reliable entertainment value?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm
Ψke:

Survivor has definitely evolved and changed a lot, but there's still definitely a lot of scheming and plotting. They don't cast any many shitheads for sure though. That has gotten them into some trouble.
