David Shortell:

Nate, did you write this review? If the book's author invented the genre term "gunk", I don't think it caught on.
I also don't know why the years 1988 and 2001 were chosen to periodize the genre.

Nate K.:

I think he discusses both how he landed on the term and why he chose the dates in the interview I did with him a couple weeks ago. Both are admittedly somewhat arbitrary.

Where can I find the interview?

Was that Echo & The Bunnymen sounding like The Gun Club?
Avatar 10:00pm
David Shortell:

Thanks, Nate. I missed that program. I only thought about the book because I heard a song a few days ago by the band Gunk!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10pm
Nate K.:

Ha! Was Gunk "gunk punk"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12pm

Great track.

@Medson, a classic. And clearly my copy is a "classic" too, given the skips.

Charles Fleischer is one of the greatest comics ever, despite his limited career success.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42pm
ultradamno:

I remember him. Up there with Tim Thomerson for guys that got lost in the shuffle going into the 80s comedy boom
Avatar 10:53pm
David Shortell:

Yes, Thomerson is great. It breaks my heart that he had to resort to acting in a lot of drek.
