	6:13pm Danne D: While I'm not a Brooklyn guy (still pissed the Nets moved there) I have to point out that Todd still will be booking bands at the Bell House which is a great venue to see a show (I've actually seen 4 there in the last few months). A schlep from Jersey of course, but it's an option.

	6:15pm Danne D: A third thought. The new WFMU performance space and the promise it holds does make the loss of Maxwell's slightly easier to deal with. I haven't driven to Maxwell's in a long time - I hoof it from the PATH.
	6:16pm Mike Sin: Rock 'n' roll "culture" can't be threatened because Maxwell's isn't part of Hoboken anymore... it just exists in Hoboken now. Maxwell's formerly had a symbiotic relationship with the music subculture that existed in Hoboken at one time... a nexus among the local musicians, Pier Platters, fanzines, and such... That doesn't exist in Hoboken anymore. Do the majority of the locals even care that Hoboken is closing? It's just old-timers and young folks who don't live there.
	6:16pm Pete from Boston (and NJ): The thing with Maxwell's was that it is/was a great place that isn't/wasn't in the city. if you were anyplace in North Jersey, it was an order of magnitude more plausible to make it there than to the city.

	6:18pm Danne D: Definitely Pete. Not claiming it's the same at Bell House. Was excited at the prospect of a reopened Court Tavern but wasn't overwhelmed by the list of upcoming shows on their site last time I checked.

	6:31pm Mike East: I used to play the open mic night at the Court Tavern...man, open mics are depressing. Maxwells, on the other hand, is one of the better clubs in the area that I've played. I think they'd at least give you dinner...or maybe just discounted chicken fingers, but still! It will be missed.

	6:40pm dale: wow - only time i went to cbgb's i was throwing up and lo and behold a twenty dollar bill was laying on the floor next to the bowl. i continued to drink with that twenty, too!
	6:41pm Todd E. Jones: I remember seeing The Fall, Ultra Vivid Scene, Television Personalities at Maxwell's. The stage was so close to the audience, I remember some poured their beer on the lead singer of Ultra Vivid Scene.

I remember seeing Marianne Nowottny finishing up her set on stage and then BOOOM Lightning Bolt ROARING to life from Behind (as they were set up in the back corner) amazing. Peter Buck selling me and signing my Young Fresh Fellow/Minus 5 CD in the back was another awesome memory. Replicated with Mike Mills signing my Baseball Project CD a few years later (he sits in with BP when Peter Buck isn't available)

	6:48pm Kathy: I saw Lydia Lunch castrate half the men in the audience and make them FLEE as Henry Rollins followed her on stage doing a stand-up comedy style thing because he could not begin to "follow THAT" monumental

	6:50pm Mike Sin: I guess that's the bigger issue at the moment -- Not only Maxwell's closing, but the vacuum created by the loss. If, say, Todd had announced Maxwell's was closing, but then gave the details on a new club in Jersey City, Bayonne, or some such, I think folks would be able to focus on the future. It would dull the loss a bit. But it's the loss of a great club with nothing definite to replace it yet makes it really tough.

	6:52pm Pete from Boston (and NJ): The Meat Locker! Discovered it by accident while taking a friend from the city to see how little goes on in Montclair to satisfy his curiosity. No one believes me that it exists!

	6:55pm Pete from Boston (and NJ): I remember that great weekend in 1995 when Stereolab played back-to-back shows at Maxwell's before moving on to a little place called Central Park the next day. I'll miss feeling the sweat of my favorite bands at Maxwell's.

	6:56pm ExHobokenite: The world has changed and so has Hoboken. First gen Maxwells with Steve was pre-internet and rents were 1/10 of todays'. Jersey City today is where Hoboken was 10 years ago, there's a band at Lamppost tonite at 10 after Ken & Andy, and Todd will continue to book at Loews and (fingers crossed) White Eagle Hall. But the indy era of '85-00 ain't comin back. Time to grow up.
